"Nun siegt mal schön!" ("Now win, for a change!")[edit]

that a horrible translation —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.247.244.227 (talk) 05:07, 22 April 2009 (UTC) I agree. The English phrase actually means "Nun siegt endlich mal." A better English phrase would probably be "Now go out and win!", although that's too serious and doesn't really capture the ironic undertone of the German phrase. jfeise (talk) 06:24, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Found a better translation: "Happy war-winning"[1], which captures the irony much better.jfeise (talk) 07:15, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"West Germany" is basically a colloquial name. The official name of "West Germany" was "Federal Republic of Germany". "East Germany" was officially "German Democratic Republic." After the unification of Oct. 3, 1990, "Federal Republic of Germany" refers to the unified country. jfeise (talk) 17:45, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I apparently jumped the gun a bit on the "German Empire", which indeed was the official name of Germany ("Deutsches Reich") until 1943. jfeise (talk) 17:50, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notes[edit]

Deputies of the german presidents[edit]

I would like to ad the presidents of the bundesrat who are the deputies of the german presidents (article 57 basic law) to the infoboxes in each article, because I think this is prettiy important information. My edits have been undone, so I wanted to ask if there are any objectives or better ideas of implementing this. Alektor89Alektor89 (talk) 19:52, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a good idea since it makes the infobox way too big. And I don't think it is important information. In the German press that I have known over decades, the President's deputies have pretty much never even been mentioned. jfeise (talk) 20:14, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The only time I have seen this mentioned in the press was when Presidents Horst Köhler and Christian Wulff resigned. And it is mentioned in a sentence in the article about Köhler. jfeise (talk) 20:30, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I (being german myself) don`t quite agree, look at these examples: http://www.sz-online.de/sachsen/tillich-reist-als-bundesratspraesident-nach-suedkorea-und-singapur-3379392.html http://www.bild.de/politik/ausland/stanislaw-tillich/bundesratspraesident-tillich-bedauert-brexitentscheidung_ag_dp-46468576.bild.html http://www.lvz.de/Mitteldeutschland/News/Tillich-nach-Anschlag-in-Muenchen-Bluttat-nicht-fuer-feindselige-Debatten-nutzen http://www.rp-online.de/politik/deutschland/volker-bouffier-ist-der-neue-bundesratspraesident-aid-1.4586391 http://www.rp-online.de/politik/deutschland/volker-bouffier-ist-der-neue-bundesratspraesident-aid-1.4586391 http://www.merkur.de/politik/ruecktritt-bundespraesident-wulff-horst-seehofer-staatsoberhaupt-zr-1605099.html I could add many more... And besides...shouldn`t an enyclopedia offer a bit more information than just facts everyone already knows? And there are many more unimportant facts in the infoboxes (for example look at the Joachim Gauck article: children that are not relevant enough for own articles, religion (completely unimportant for a german politician), signature (convenient if you want to fake it, though ;-)...)Alektor89 (talk) 20:40, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To just take the first article you list, it says in the title and in it's first sentence that Tillich traveled in his role as President of the Bundesrat. In other words, not as deputy President of Germany. That whole article never mentions anything about the German President. And again, in the Horst Köhler article there is a sentence that "the powers of the vacant office were executed by the current President of the Bundesrat". So, the information is there. It doesn't belong in the infobox. jfeise (talk) 21:32, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
