Contested deletion[edit]

For God sakes, I created this page not 15 minutes ago. Give me a chance to make it notable. Mugginsx (talk) 14:47, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because <replace these words with your reason>. — Mugginsx (talk) 14:58, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This man played a critical role in the establishment of new colonies in American, mainly in New Plymouth,

I just created this article FIFTEEN MINUTES AGO, would you kindly allow me to make him relevant? This is ridiculous, deleting something in 15 minuites after its creation. Mugginsx (talk) 14:58, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because it was just created this morning and the creating editor has requested time to expand it. Even as a stub, its obvious to me that the subject is notable. Smatprt (talk) 15:39, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FYI - This is the same Weston who co-founded the Wessagusset Colony, sometimes called the Weston Colony. Here is a link to further info: [1]. Smatprt (talk) 16:11, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information and for your intervention. Will be working on this all afternoon but most first take my dog to the vet. Mugginsx (talk) 16:23, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What links here[edit]

With at least nine articles referencing this man[2], notability should not have been difficult to establish. --Wbm1058 (talk) 05:34, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Company's name[edit]

It states in my reference and on my page that the company name was dubbed "Merchant Adventurers of London." David Lindsay, PhD., Mayflower Bastard: A Stranger amongst the Pilgrims (St. Martins Press, New York, 2002) p. 27 paragraph 4. The Wikipedia article entitled: Company of Merchant Adventurers to New Lands does not state it but it could be another company altogether or the article could be the one incorrect. Will have to do further research. until then, I left it as "they created a company of merchant adventurers". Mugginsx (talk) 21:45, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Company of Merchant Adventurers of London received its royal charter from King Henry IV in 1407, so Thomas Weston could not have founded it. My sense is that Weston's merchant adventurer business was a member of the Company of Merchant Adventurers of London, but you should find a good reference to confirm that. Thank you for that advice. I will look further. Mugginsx (talk) 10:37, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have found another book which mentions this: Nathaniel Philbrick Mayflower: A story of Courage, Community and War (Viking 2006) p. 20. He describes them as the Merchant Adventurers, a group of about seventy London merchants who viewed the colonization of America has both an investment opportunity and some a "way of planting religion". I will check out his bibliography but I think, at least for now, I will use the name generically, i.e., a group Merchant adventurers.
The more I read the more confusing it is as to which particular Merchant Adventurers group Weston was in. Will have to keep generic for now. Mugginsx (talk) 11:52, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
