RIAA certification?[edit]

Okay, it did good commercially (1.8 million copies worldwide) and critically for an 25th anniversary album edition, but hasn't it been certified Gold in the U.S? Artists have to sell at least 500,000 copies to get a Gold album, which is what MJ has done. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.34.242.10 (talk) 17:08, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The album failed, however, to make number one on the US album charts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.104.30.101 (talk) 07:23, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its not going to be certified, why do you thing it only appeared on the "Catalog chart"? Its considered the same as the original Thriller album. It will boost the 27 x Platinum states of Thriller but T25 itself will never be certified. Which in some ways is really good because that means theres a chance that Thriller will go back to being the best selling US album of all time. With the sales of T25, Thriller is close to a 28 x Plat certification. Also, who cares if it missed the #1 spot, lol, its a bloody reissue with next to zero promotion. It means that MJ could do a studio album which would shift 400,000+ in its first week if promoted correctly with good songs. Everyone thought his career would be over after the trial, T25 is currently the 2nd best selling album of the year worldwide. Whats more, its just proven something ive known for a long time, MJ is the only superstar in the world that doesnt need the US to shift records. Sure the US helps him but it only counts for 25% of his sales (the US market is 50% of the industry). Hes truely international. The fun has only just begun. --— Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 17:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeaah but hey, I think its important to note that the US virtually snubbed this album compared to it's overseas popularity, whereas they embraced the original Thriller album..interesting.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Takka (talkcontribs) 06:42, 6 June 2008 (UTC) And btw, the album was also listed on the Billboard Comprehensive Charts, where even there didn't reach number one, in it's country of origin. I wasn't referring to the Catalog Charts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Takka (talkcontribs) 06:46, 6 June 2008 (UTC) Lastly, you should allow people to edit your page with relevant factual comments, even if you don't like the facts, especially when the edits are contributed without bias or prejudice and in the spirit of Wiki'.[reply]

The US didnt snub it at all!!! It was 25% of his market, his market has always been 25% from the US, nothing changed. Proportionally his popularity in America against the world is the same as before. — Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 06:56, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Even so, demographically the album charted far better outside of the US, it's country of origin, which is below par compared to previous Jackson releases, supporting comments that the singer has lost his place in, and is no longer in favor with, the American audience.--Takka (talk) 07:34, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, america was one of its better countries, it went to #1 in 8 countries then in america it went #2, the us was one of the better countries. — Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 07:42, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It went to number 2 in America, where it ran equal 15th for charting at a peak of number 2 with other countries, and running equal 9th as far as overall international charting success. Like I said, the album was not accepted by the American public, in comparison to the original Thriller album. Many have commented on the "falling out" MJ has had with his appeal in his homeland, America.--Takka (talk) 11:30, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I also make reference to an interesting comment on a blog I noted with interest recently, where it was written: "The sales reflect the fan base as well. Compare the sales of the Eagles greatest hits release to Thriller 25." It's food for thought, don't you think?--Takka (talk) 11:57, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As MJ fans, we should be happy this will increase Thriller's sales HERE in the U.S.A. BrothaTimothy (talk · contribs) 03:09, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can i just remind the Haters, #1's (in 2003) only reached #13 in the charts, his reissue (in 2005) only peaked at #96. Thriller 25 reached #2 with ZERO promotion. This shows his career is recovering and is not still going downhill. — Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 03:38, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As a MJ fan for probably a little longer than many here, I'm glad that his career is not "still going downhill" as you put it. Also, as many of the other newer MJ fans around seem to, you should'nt automatically assume someone who adds to "Your" discussion on here, or other MJ discussions for that matter, is a "Hater". Chill. :)--Takka (talk) 07:00, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BrothaTimothy, I agree with your comment.--Takka (talk) 07:00, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also Rolling Stone call it a US success in his updated Biography. Seen Here. — Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 22:40, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I read that sentence in the transcript, indeed it was 'Rolling Stone' that gave 'Thriller' a 4/5 rating on it's release. I personally didn't like the remixes, in particular 'wanna be starting something'. The original was a unique and unparalleled success, trying to remake it into a millennium phenomena didn't work, I think. Don't mess with the magic, preserve it..

Like, Quincey inspires him to write a pop song with a beat like 'My Sherona', he comes up with 'Beat It'. He is driving in his car and thinks of making a song with a heavy bass lead in, and comes up with 'Billie Jean'. He wakes from his sleep and writes 'The Girl Is Mine'. He is, indeed, a miracle. .--Takka (talk) 12:42, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats your opinion, which is fine, most people agree that it wasnt great yet it still shifted loads of copies. Please remember this talk page is only for talking about the article not Michael Jackson or your thoughts on the record. — Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 17:29, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"most people agree that it wasnt great.." Well said, Realist.--Takka (talk) 13:04, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Talk about the article only please, not your personal opinion of the record. This is not a forum. — Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 13:05, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
