Untitled[edit]

This article is just very wrong. It has no citations and yet it's just wrong.

1) Saying tian is French instead of Provncal is like saying grits is American not Southern American.

2) The food is more important than the cookware (more on this) yet cookware comes first.

3) It says it uses winter vegetables. But the traditional tian is zucchini, potatoes and tomatoes. Since when is the green summer squash known as zucchini or a tomato ever before been called "winter" vegetables.

4) I would go on, but there's more than enough here to demonstrate already this article is just all wrong.


Instead of complaining about some possible (though unlikely) inaccuracies, make a contribution and do some editing. That's what Wikipedia is about. I don't see your suggested changes in the article. Rewrite[edit]

The previous article was completely unreferenced and made many claims that I was unable to substantiate. Since the article was so short (three bare paragraphs), I rewrote it and cited sources. French tianTian (cuisine) – This dish is usually called "Tian". The names fr:Tian provençal and en:French tian are both misleading, and the English is simply wrong because French cuisine and Provençal cuisine are not the same thing. The mistake was pointed out in that rather bad-tempered exchange of 2008, above. Perhaps no one who has commented could decide what to do about it, because Tian is also a Chinese word and, at a guess, the Chinese word is a little bit better known than the Provençal one. At a second guess, all of the 80-odd occurrences of "French tian" found by Google (a very small number) are either directly based on this page, or at least written by people who take Wikipedia pagenames too seriously.

OK then: this is about a cooking utensil as well as a kind of cooked dish, so I propose a move to Tian (cuisine). A second possibility is Tian (Provençal cuisine), but I think shorter is better.
