2009 protest[edit]

This event was deleted from the city timeline as "not relevant." The BBC News timeline of Ireland states: "2009 February - Unemployment rate reaches 11% - the highest since 1996. Some 100,000 people take part in Dublin protest rally against government's handling of economic crisis." Seems like a big event. How is it not relevant to city history? Thanks. -- M2545 (talk) 12:16, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Because we already have an article on Irish protests. Protest marches in Dublin are not all that uncommon. Why single out that one in particular? It's very relevant to the protests in Ireland article, not relevant at all to a timeline of Dublin one. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 13:32, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the comment. I think Dublin anti-austerity protests constitute an important aspect of city history (because they take place there, and impact traffic, police, media, etc.). At least the larger ones should be considered for inclusion in the city timeline. -- M2545 (talk) 13:46, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of items in the timeline[edit]

I would question many of the most recent events in the timeline of Dublin, items that are almost certainly going to have an influence on Dublin into the future such as the Rosie Hackett bridge are certainly notable added to the fact that it is the first likely named after an Irish Woman but a few of the other may need to be removed, others appear to be more like advertisements.

The qualifying criteria should be if it has a significant effect on Dublin over an extended period of years or regularly makes national or international news to in a way that uniquely applies to Dublin. e.g. I think that Dublin's first gay pride march may be a notable event but it shouldn't be in it for every year. It is inherently difficult to predict if something is going to be important into the future and in that case it may be a case of Wikipedia:TOOSOON.Financefactz (talk) 20:59, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'd largely agree. Nobody will care if a particular restaurant or other business opened in X year, or if a festival with no article of its own began in year Y. Will remove some of the advertorial stuff now. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 22:18, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fully agree - there are no doubt important missing items but as of this morning, it was overloaded, and for some items, you'd wonder "where did that come from?" - so, nice cutting! SeoR (talk) 22:38, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
