Details from the book[edit]

...his father who died in a building site accident when Timm was four -- according to the book, Tim's farther died four years after Tim started to go to school. Presumably he was twelve then.

Number of episodes in English[edit]

There's no source for the claim the 1991 BBC repeat run skipped an episode but the whole thing is a mess.

The Radio Times listings show a 12 episode run on Wednesday afternoons from 22 June-7 September 1988 and another 12 episode run on Friday afternoons from 10 May-26 July 1991 with both runs announcing the twelfth episode as the final part and detailing that Tyler's laughter is returned for 24 hours. Confusingly the 1991 run listings for most of the first four episodes said it was a 13 part drama but after this it's consistently described as a 12 part drama. To add to the confusion the 11th episode is described as "Last of a 12-part drama" in the 1991 listings.

It's all confusing but suggests that the English dub either removed a whole episode or was re-edited for length here coming out at 12 episodes. In 1988 there was a one off Gentle Ben episode the week before the run started, suggesting a 13 week run could have been accommodated before the autumn refresh (complicating things that was during the Euro 88 so Children's BBC was shunted onto BBC2 that day). My instinct is that the English dub is one episode shorter than the German original and this confused the heck out of whoever wrote the Radio Times entries, but without sources nothing should be claimed in the article.
