Tithe (Latter Day Saints)Tithing (Latter Day Saints) – At first I thought "Tithe (Latter Day Saints)" would be the best title for this article because it would be consistent with the article "Tithe". However, after reading WP:COMMONTERM, I now think Tithing would be a better article name. For one thing, the word "tithe" is only used in an LDS context with the phrase "tithes and offerings". The word "tithing" is much more common, at least in an LDS context. FriendlyGhostUser (talk) 21:27, 1 September 2016 (UTC) --Relisting. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 16:46, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This article appears to be about the broad topic of tithing in Mormonism, not only in "Latter-Day Saints" churches and not only in the largest Mormon denomination. Why not title it Tithing in Mormonism and forgo the artificial parenthetical phrase altogether? 64.105.98.115 (talk) 03:08, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I was under the impression that Latter Day Saints referred to the Latter Day Saint movement, which covers Mormonism. Tithing in Mormonism would also be a good title. There's also Tithing (Mormonism). It's all rather consistent, perhaps the titles should be standardized. FriendlyGhostUser (talk) 16:48, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You may also want to review MOS:LDS for any changes to terminology. Bahooka (talk) 16:59, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, the last time I paid any attention to this issue the MOS recommended "Mormon" as the umbrella term and advised to avoid "Latter-Day Saints" except for the church of Brigham Young. I can see it's gone around the other way now. I endorse whichever form the MOS endorses, so Tithing in the Latter-day Saint movement would seem to be the preferred form. That's verbose but still netter than an artificial title. By the way, all of these redlinks should probably be created as redirects regardless. 64.105.98.115 (talk) 01:39, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The article is about their practice of tithing, and is not about tithe, and if it were it would not justify a separate article. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:01, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Does the church support members via tithing?[edit]

Does tithing also support members of the church who are having financial difficulties due to job loss, unexpected medical bills and the like? 47.138.88.67 (talk) 04:09, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tithing is usually not directly used to support members of the church. That is primarily done through Fast offerings, another type of donation made on a regular basis by members of the church. Rollidan (talk) 05:59, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
