Outdated Pic[edit]

Is there some reason that a 12 year old picture is used in this article? Tituss Burgess doesn't look anything like he did in 2008! Surely, there's a more recognizable and relevant photo out there that could be used?

Removed irrelevant info re: sexuality[edit]

Sexuality[edit]

That Titus Burgess is openly gay is a fact. It is also a referenced fact. If other editors wish this fact not to be included in the text of the article, then it is on them to state clearly which aspect of Wikipedia guidance they think is being violated and why. Until that argument is made then I suggest individual editors avoid slipping into edit-warring. Incidentally if one reads the referenced article then Burgess actually says "These young people need visibility and they need to see grown-ups who have it together living their lives". Yes, LGBTQ+ visibility is important. I'm gay, so I'm well aware. But Wikipedia is not a soapbox, and just because you feel it's necessary to use Mr Burgess's article this way doesn't make it notable. One of the aims of LGBTQ+ visibility is to make diverse sexuality normal, and in this light Mr Burgess's sexuality is not in and of itself notable. Straight actors and singers don't generally have their sexuality mentioned in their articles. If you wouldn't see "David Duchovny is openly straight" then you shouldn't see "Tituss Burgess is openly gay". This is equality. Unless Burgess is famous for also being an LGBTQ+ activist, in which case, I suggest you find and cite a source and write an appropriate paragraph. A single sentence statement from him in an external article (and that isn't included in the Wikipedia article itself anyway) isn't really enough. ▫ Urbane Legend ^chinwag 18:36, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have to find a source to support the claim he is an activist. He identifies as gay. It's a fact that is sourced. That's sufficient. I'm not the one banging the drum; you are, if you think that it's necessary to include every actor's sexuality on their Wikipedia articles. If you wouldn't see "David Duchovny is openly straight" then you shouldn't see "Tituss Burgess is openly gay". This is equality. By that reasoning, we would never mention that Ray Charles is blind, or that Robin Gibb is a twin, since we don't routinely mention that other people are sighted and were born singly. Exactly! From the article on Robin Gibb: "Robin Hugh Gibb was born on 22 December 1949 in Jane Crookall Maternity Home in Douglas, Isle of Man,[11] to Hugh and Barbara Gibb (née Pass). He was the fraternal twin of Maurice Gibb and was the older of the two by 35 minutes." From the article on Ray Charles: "Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004), known professionally as Ray Charles, was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and composer. Among friends and fellow musicians he preferred being called "Brother Ray." He was often referred to as "The Genius."[2][3] Charles was blind from the age of seven." *Sigh*.
