– If people are searching for Tom Clark, it's much easier to find which one based on date of birth- there will be no confusion between a person born in 1924 and one born in 2001. On the other hand, many readers will not know whether the person they're looking for played for Surrey or Sussex. So this move would make it much easier for readers, especially casual readers, to find the article they are looking for. And we often disambiguate by year of birth, by county they played for doesn't seem like a natural dismabiguation to me, as it requires much greater subject knowledge. • Oppose per WP:NCPDAB "Years of birth and death are not normally used as disambiguators (readers are more likely to be seeking this information than to already know it)". If you fast-forward ten years from now, will people looking for the Sussex cricketer know that he was born in 2001? Or was it a year or two either side of that? Same for the Surrey cricketer - I doubt people could guess at his decade of birth, let alone the year, but might have a better idea which club he played for. • I respectfully disagree. If you start typing Tom Clark, and see two people listed with years of birth 77 years apart, I would know which one I wanted. But if I see Surrey and Sussex, it requires a lot more knowledge on the players to know which one you want. We shouldn't assume everyone knows what clubs players play for- after all, that's the sort of information a reader may be looking for. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:52, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can see both sides of the case for club vs DOB. If others support the DOB dab, then I'm happy to strike-through my comment if needed. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:04, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Personally in a situation like this I prefer a year of birth disambiguator as Joseph2302 has suggested. I appreciate this is a bit crystal ball-ey, but the current player could well move to another side, or be selected for the Hundred in the near future, and so the current disambiguator could prove confusing.
