NOT a bass-baritone at all[edit]

He was a baritone, in fact a lyric baritone. His most famous role was probably the Count in The Marriage of Figaro, a role no bass anything could sing. I saw him in that and as Malatesta in Don Pasquale, another high lyric baritone part. He was a fine Lieder singer, too.
