Bad Things that happen[edit]

Can anyone find a serious third party source that provides proof that Tommy Hilfiger didn't in fact make those comments? Sfacets 03:23, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The weight to provide proof should be on the acusation, not on the defence. What we need is proof that he did say it, not that he didn't. Else any rumour would become fact as long as there was no proof against it. But if you insist, here is a serious third party source that provides proof that Tommy Hilfiger didn't in fact make those comments. By the way: I dislike Tommy Hilfiger and his brand.--Daniel Medina 23:56, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is this good enough proof for you? How about this? No? Try this! You gotta be KIDDING me.
Oh, and yeah - Tommmy sucks. People still wear his crap? PennyGWoods 07:40, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Urban legends? Trend micro? Some random website that looks like a spammers cersion of paradise? Nope. Not good enough proof.

If both parties negate that it ever happened it is virtually impossible to find proof that he did in fact say those things. But I know. I just wanted to audit what ppls opinion on him were.

A statement from Oprah's production team explicitly stating that Hilfiger has never even been a guest on the show isn't enough? Please.--RicardoC 00:06, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, whaddaya know? A statement from Oprah herself:
"So I want to just set the record straight once and for all. The rumor claims that clothing designer Tommy Hilfiger came on this show and made racist remarks, and that I then kicked him out. I just want to say that is not true because it just never happened. Tommy Hilfiger has never appeared on this show. READ MY LIPS, TOMMY HILFIGER HAS NEVER APPEARED ON THIS SHOW. And all of [the] people who claim that they saw it, they heard it — it never happened. I've never even met Tommy Hilfiger."
So there you have it. If that doesn't convince you, then shine on, you crazy diamond.--RicardoC 00:10, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Despite it being false allegations, something about it should be put on the page (stating that it's false) simply because it was a widespread rumor and it would be good to list on this page that it was a hoax, especially with (as mentioned in other parts of discussion here) people having vandalized the page. 75.121.175.113 (talk) 08:06, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Imformation: Tommy Hilfiger is the designer and founder of Tommy Hilfiger Corporation. His real name is Thomas Jacob Hilfiger.

Perfumes and aftershaves[edit]

Why is there no information about Tommy aftershave and Tommy Girl perfume in this article? Gemfyre 15:17, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can we get in some pictures of his fashions, with prices, and maybe a shopping cart? Tbonge (talk) 16:18, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Items removed from article[edit]

I've removed the link to flcrooks.com as it bears no connection with the article and appears to be merely an advertising link. --Vincentanton 01:47, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Poorly organised[edit]

This article is poorly organised and there are parts of the introduction that would clearly do better in a new section titled "History" or something like that. I would do this myself but I do not have the time right now so if someone else wants to get to it then go ahead. --PaladinWriter 12:38, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tommy Hilfiger the human[edit]

Where is he? IMHO, the picture isn't exactly repersentative of the guy. Jackpot Den 19:53, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irish?[edit]

Hilfiger hardly is an Irish name... maybe Catholic, maybe some Irish ancestry, but as far as I know Hilfiger is a Bavarian name (and Bavaria is - like Ireland - also predominantly Catholic). Wathiik

[1] My guess is that he is half Irish and Half Bavarian or wherever the name Hilfiger comes from (not Ireland anyway). But then again.... Compare these: [2][3] Superdude99 17:37, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His father's family is from Bavaria. He said that, in an interview with German music channel VIVA. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.255.4.252 (talk) 16:14, 14 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]
His great-grandparents were from Switzerland. He said so in a 2009 interview by Swiss business magazine Bilanz. In it he also mentioned the place name Hilfikon in the canton of Argau as the source of his family's surname. [4] Joewein (talk) 09:27, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kicking and screaming?[edit]

In the report of the encounter with Axl Rose, these same words are used in the Rose article, but the referenced Fox News article makes no mention that Hilfiger was kicking, screaming, or dragged away by his own security guards. Unless these actions can be verified, it appears some editor has bias against Hilfiger. MDonfield 02:48, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tommy Hilfiger doesn't manufacture clothes[edit]

I was very surprised to find read that Tommy Hilfiger doesn't actually manufactor clothes, they merely use their label to market clothes manufactored by other companies. The wikipedia article says nothing about this and I feel that it is certainly relevant. I came across this information in my psychology textbook (Conducting Research in Psychology: Measuring the Weight of Smoke. By Pelham and Blanton, 2007. Pg 239). I then found this website going into further detail <http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=Tommy%20Hilfiger>.

This information might be worthy of inclusion, but the link you found is from a dubious source. Anyone can make any claims they want in blogs and message boards, without any contraints such as research or fact-checking. Verifiable sources need to be found and cited.---Jackel 15:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, most fashion brands don't manufacture their products directly, other than the special pieces seen on the runway. The stuff one buys in stores is almost always farmed out to other manufacturers. This is a non-issue and no big deal. wikipediatrix 16:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please note the 6th post from the top in the link I provided. It includes citations for his or her sources. I feel that a list of Tommy Hilfiger's different manufacturers for their product lines is certainly worthy of being in this encyclopedia article.

Vandalism[edit]

Someone has vandalized this page. To name an example they replaced his name with "Tammy Hilsfinger", as well as other things. I think that something should be done about this. I don't think that someone's opinion should be brought onto the page itself. If anyone can do anything about this, please do.

Myelin Sheeth 04:23, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

someone vandalised the bottom of this page, saying fuck you —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.87.43.206 (talk) 23:31, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Odd numbers in the Axl Rose section[edit]

There is a stray [92] and [93] in the (exorbitantly large) section about Hilfiger's apparently altercation with Axl Rose. I assume these were brought into the article as a result of sloppy cut-and-paste "editing", from another source. Any ideas? Tomertalk 03:40, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clever method of removing sweatshop "Criticisms" section[edit]

At 23:05 on 3 January 2008, 69.236.73.237 replaces the entire "Criticisms" section (dealing with Hilfiger's use of sweatshops, etc.) with the text "he is a racist ugly faggot with no life!"

This is quickly "reverted" (except it's not a reversion at all) at 23:39, 3 January 2008 by 86.130.8.33 (who has never done anything on Wikipedia before or since) who deletes the text- taking the whole criticism section with it.

Each individual edit looks OK. Nice.

Well now it's back. Hilfiger may not be a racist ugly faggot with no life (indeed I don't think he qualifies for _any_ of these ephitets) but he sure has acted as an exploiter of underpaid sweatshop workers -- Blorg (talk) 21:40, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why no separation?[edit]

Why aren't there two articles? One for the man and one for the business. This article says nothing about the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation! 19:48, 3 April 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dumaka (talkcontribs) QUIEN SERA ESTE MARICON DE TOMMY, QUE SE META SUS TRAPOS POR EL CULO, CULO ROTO, ME CAGO EN SU MADRE, HIJO DE PROSTITUTA. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.208.148.11 (talk) 15:13, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are two separate articles. Tommy Hilfiger Corporation Much of the material that is here should be in the other article.Richardson mcphillips (talk) 19:29, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Discrepancy with Axl Rose altercation[edit]

Axl Rose says Tommy Hilfiger slapped him in the arm several times after he moved Ocleppo's drink so it wouldn't spill at the Plumm and told Rose to move it back. Tommy Hilfiger says Axl Rose pushed him first. So..which is it? [5] 68.201.38.107 (talk) 05:08, 27 March 2010 (UTC)mattaxeman[reply]

Libelous mail[edit]

I've added a mention of this email. It's relevant; the reason I looked at this article is that I received the email and wanted to check—Wikipedia should clarify this as a work of reference. Pol098 (talk) 23:24, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Undisclosed paid editing[edit]

I noticed this article was hatnoted with the undisclosed editing template but a corresponding talk page entry wasn't started to clarify, as would be considered a WP best practice. We don't want to discourage others from editing any articles, for fear of being cast under community suspicion. I looked at the history and it appears that the editor Earflaps was identified as an undisclosed paid editor. The account has been blocked. Timtempleton (talk) 23:48, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Literary advertisement?[edit]

Why does there appear to be an ad for Hilfiger's memoir in the lede paragraph? Rt3368 (talk) 00:05, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that too. I was going to remove it but saw that the source was used several times and didn't have time to fix it. Timtempleton (talk) 19:14, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
