==Tiers of local government==

The article muddles the two tiers of local government:

  • the members of the District Council, the second tier (central government being the first), who often serve an area made up of more than one village, or alternatively serve only part of a larger town such as Snodland, where there are two councillors for two wards; and
  • the civil parish, the third tier, where there are also members on a different council, serving an area often larger than a village itself

As a result, this article is at odds with that on the List of civil parishes in Kent. It is a common misapprehension, I'm afraid! Most village articles omit to include the words civil parish, and confine themselves to talking about the village itself, ignoring the other settlements included in the parish. Editors should be aware of the article How to write about settlements which can apply equally well here
  • History: only one para needed; the other headings are more properly "Geography"
  • Needs something about Demography (not just the population - that is included in the box) and Economy
  • Landmarks (eg Kits Coty)
  • Transport now added
  • Religious sites and Education - the principal ones certainly
  • Culture? Sports? Public Services?
  • Town Twinning added
- and all must be referenced Peter Shearan (talk) 14:35, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
