Bluegrass Alliance[edit]

If you want to know the truth about which city Tony returned (went) to become a member of The Bluegrass Alliance (The house band at the Red Dog Saloon in Louisville Kentucky) I strongly suggest a perusal of a early 1970s Louisville Yellow pages and perhaps A letter Mr Rice himself. He replaced Dan Crary as the Guitar soloist in that band. Thegreatjefftaylor 09:38, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Rice replaced Dan Crary as the guitarist for the Bluegrass Alliance. Click on the highlight bars below for documentation of the fact that the Alliance played in Louisville not Lexington. http://www.flatpick.com/Pages/Featured_Artist/crary.html http://www.classicwebs.com/bg_allia.htm Bob Hopeless 06:28, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Material for bio[edit]

It appears that much of the material for this biography was either copied from or to the biography at the official home page of Tony Rice at http://www.tonyrice.com/biography.html Gtuckerkellogg (talk) 14:03, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Genres[edit]

Tony may have played Jazz influenced music, however I would not agree that what he plays is Jazz. I would propose that his music be listed as Bluegrass, Country and Folk. Yes he played Country, not pop Country but Country in the same way that Peter Rowan does. Drumzandspace2000 (talk) 15:12, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am removing New Acoustic for two reasons. looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_musical_artist#Genre

Aim for generality - "New Acoustic" isn't really general
Genres should be wikilinked - "New Acoustic" is not listed as a genre and thus can not be wikilinked.

I am going to reinstate it again. There is no rule that genres should be wikilinked. Listing him as a bluegrass and folk musician is misleading - general or not. There are sufficient sources to make an article about New Acoustic - the fact that noone has doen it is irrelevant. Currently the lead describes his music as "spacegrass" which is not wikilinked, not how he himself describes it or how any reliable sources describe it.·Maunus·ƛ· 18:35, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding spacegrass, I found this while searching for "Tony Rice New Acoustic" - [1]
My feeling is that "new acoustic" is not general enough, it's best to keep genres as general as possible, otherwise you could run into 15 genres per musician.. the fact that this proposed genre doesn't have an article does mean something IMO --CutOffTies (talk) 18:42, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It does now: New Acoustic Music.·Maunus·ƛ· 18:58, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, none of the references in that article look to be a reliable source, except for the sfgate article, which gives the term a trivia mention. I doubt that article would survive an AFD. --CutOffTies (talk) 19:37, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nominate it and we'll see.·Maunus·ƛ· 19:47, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_musical_artist#Genre genres are to be wikilinked that alone is reason enough to remove it as your wikilink does not go to an article. Second the genres are to be general and "New Acoustic" is not general at all. Please do not readd until a consensus is reached here. Drumzandspace2000 (talk) 20:27, 30 November 2010 (UTC)![reply]
