Proposal for the acceptance of a new entry: Website Toolbars

Without commercially promoting any particular provider or website, I firmly believe that as a result of "Website" toolbars, that is, toolbars which persistently appear of the bottom of a website (such examples include those found on Facebook.com, MySpace.com, CNET.com etc) and the proliferation of "free" Website toolbars such as those provided by companies such as Wibiya and Meebo, it is important for the community to recognize that this is a new type of toolbar, which differs greatly enough to the other two definitions (the first being a traditional application toolbar and the second being a "browser toolbar" - that is, a toolbar which appears inside a Web browser, but which is not a part of a specific website, to warrant entry. The entry that I have made does not promote any particular provider more than another but provides a balanced explanation of what a Website toolbar is in it's 2009/2010 context. I do not believe that we need to be referring to every single website that has such a toolbar on it (that would be both ridiculous and considered spam), but reference to Facebook and MySpace's versions as well as the Wibiya and Meebo toolbars I believe are popular enough on the internet for the community to provide Wikipedia users with a definition that explains them. --Shortsalefundamentals 18:25, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

External Links

While I probably shet fouk added to the problem, against the intent of WP becoming a linkpool, I felt that the inclusion of the Wikipedia Toolbar merited inclusion, however - I don't want it to be seen as an invitation to add external links to all and sundry Toolbars. Notable ones like the Google / Yahooshet definition etc toolbars should be considered for inclusion. Until then, or instructed otherwise by community consensus I will be deleting non-notable toolbar links. --Seriocomic 13:23, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

The college toolbar is a licensed product with thousands of new users each day. Just because you're not interested in it doesn't mean others aren't. --JerryOdom78

That's not my point. Just because you consider your beloved toolbar popular, doesn't make it Notable for the inclusion in Wikipedia. There are thousands of more popular toolbars. Until the college toolbar gains world-wide or significant notability - it isn't going to stay. --Seriocomic 23:21, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
I have to concur with Seriocomic here. Wikimedia and major names (eg. "The Big Three") should be the only ones included; This isn't a listing service, it's an encyclopedia. There are thousands of toolbars available, most just for viruses and porn and we don't need to know them all. On that note, I am expanding this article, and the above point is going to be addressed. There are thousands of toolbars, so who are we to judge what should or should not be included. In fact, why link to any specific toolbar? Conduit is a good link because its a toolbar building platform. For example toolbars why not link to a directory or search engine of toolbars, like conduittoolbars.com for example? This way people would not complain about what is or is not noteworthy. Bobthebugman 17:21, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Conduit

I think Conduit is suitable to be added here. If it isn't, then just delete it... - Nickr95 20:36, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Sorry, deleting since it doesn't add to the article and seems like linkspam. --Alan Au 01:16, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Sorry, but Creating A Toolbar[Not To Mention The Top Toolbar Creator Company] and A Toolbar go hand and hand! Conduit is being readded.
      • I might be okay with adding a section about user-created toolbars that discussed commercial and open-source options, but the mere addition of an external link is a bit too much like linkspam. Also, please remember to sign your posts. Thanks, and happy editing! --Alan Au 00:59, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Removal of Yellow Pages toolbars

I have removed the following from the page as it appears to be link-spam.

There are also Yellow Pages toolbars for ease of accessing business directories. Some known Yellow Pages web browser toolbars include:

Surely if all the toolbars are created by the same company they have all of them on a single webpage somewhere? If I'm mistaken, feel free to correct me. TheJC (TalkContribsCount) 13:01, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I've removed a paragraph from this talk page as it seems like vandalism, it's just a help tekst (on the "insert image" function in Microsoft office) repeated six times.
