Q: Why are tornadoes with higher damage totals are listed in the article, but are not listed in the costliest United States tornadoes section?

A: Per Wikipedia’s policy on verifiability, a secondary reliable source must directly reference a tornado as Xth-costliest tornado for the list. A community consensus concluded that NOAA information used for a tornado’s damage total is not solely sufficient references for the list.
