Criticism of Yates[edit]

This article references the often-repeated idea that Simon Yates fell under 'widespread criticism' from the mountain climbing community for his actions on the mountain, but this may be apocryphal. He himself disputes it, saying that one newspaper did a "hatchet job" on him but that as soon as the facts were known he received mostly support from the mountain climbing community. An interview with him on this point is here: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_hb3120/is_3_78/ai_n29284890/ CaliforniaAndie (talk) 16:51, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

@CaliforniaAndie Agreed he had to cut the rope but the movie did not show Yates trying to shout into the crevasse. If this is true then he deserves some criticsm. 2600:8800:1701:AFD0:9CB5:CBB9:70E3:D601 (talk) 18:48, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

When they believed Simpson was dead[edit]

The article states that they finally believed Simpson was dead the last day but the film indicates that Yates thought he was dead the next morning, not even thinking to look into the crevasse after he saw it and knew Simpson must have gone in. Phil (talk) 02:43, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
