Links to rally articles[edit]

The article had a lot of red links to articles such as 1997 China Rally. The article Rally China is quite short, so it is very unlikely that there will ever be an article just for 1997. We could do redirects for every year but this is a lot of work to redirect every single year for little gain. So I pipe linked each red link to point to the correct article (or 1990s section as appropriate. But @Pelmeen10 reverted it with the simple summary "everted good faith edits by Stepho-wrs (talk): Not a good idea". Can you explain why having lots of redlinks is better than linking to the correct articles?  Stepho  talk  20:55, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Stepho. Thanks for being concerned. Answering your last question why having lots of redlinks is better than linking to the correct articles? - correct articles would be the ones currently red. Check other World Rally Car articles, this is how we link, and those red links should become blue, I'm sure it will happen rather sooner than later/never. It would be much harder in future to fix these piped links. There were not so many, so creating redirects makes so much more sense. Pelmeen10 (talk) 07:12, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In general, I agree with you and usually follow WP:REDIRECT by making lots of redirects. Eg Toyota Supra (A40) and many similar redirects were created by me. But in this case, I think those rally articles are unlikely to be expanded. However, if you feel that they will soon get expanded then we should create the dozens of links for each year for each rally. About 30 years for each of 4 rallies is going to keep someone busy. Especially for the 1998 Monte Carlo Pally (spelt with a P). Seems like a lot of work for small gain.  Stepho  talk  10:19, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There are currently only 3 red links here. Let's follow the policies. Pelmeen10 (talk) 20:11, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
