HOMEWOOD – A San Francisco skier was pronounced dead Sunday at Homewood Mountain Resort after being found upside down and unresponsive in a tree well.

Efforts to resuscitate Tyler A. Palmer, 37, were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at 2:28 p.m., according to a Placer County sheriff's news release.

Light to moderate snow was falling when Palmer was discovered on the Hobbit Land run about 1:50 p.m., Sgt. John Giovannini said in the release.

Palmer's death is thought to be accidental but is under investigation, the release said.

A spokesman at the Sheriff's Department said there was no trauma and Palmer is believed to have suffocated after falling into the tree well while skiing.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted today.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the Lake Tahoe dispatch center at (530) 581-6330.
