Move[edit]

There is a discussion going on at the Rugby union Wikiproject about moving Rugby Union Tri Nations here, with Rugby League Tri-Nations having a link at the top. I believe the union competition should hold the page, as the majority of users coming here would be looking for it, and since there is only the one other tournament, its silly to have a disambiguation page, which forces the union tournament to have a weird title, whereas the league tournament is actually referred to as the Rugby League Tri-Nations. Googling (league page comes up for teh first time on page 3 of results) and crowds (league's are less than half), as well as the fact that union started theres years earlier, indicate that most people would be seeking the union tournament, so I'am for it being moved this way. I contest the move on the grounds that there are currently two competitions by this name and many users of English Wikipedia will be more interested in the one in which Great Britain plays. WP:NPOV maintains that where two points of view exist, one should not be given prominence over the other. After the 2006 Rugby League Tri-Nations my objection will expire as the Rugby Union competition will be the only current competition by this name. Yes, but the Tri Nations (ru) is also screened in the UK and is also popular there, and many people will also just type tri nations in. Cvene64's google results do suggest more people are looking for the union version, and if we move the ru version, which is older and has more attendance, it makes no difference to RL fans, because there is still a disam eitherway.--HamedogTalk|@ 15:15, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Such union bias would be contrary to WP:NPOV. What's to stop you moving rugby union to rugby and redirecting rugby football there as well, if no-one draws a line in the sand now? Yorkshire Phoenix (talkcontribs) 15:30, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Because of
  • 1 The term "Tri Nations" returns more results in the first 3 pages about the rugby union comp then the league comp.
  • 2 The NRL refers the RL comp as the Rugby League Tri Nations
  • 3 It is likely more people will be looking for the union one
  • 4 The rugby union compition is older
  • 5 and more popular (attendance figures)
  • 6 it makes now diff for the league comp to diff here or if the ru article moves here (same number of clicks)
  • 7 the rugby union tri nations is called the tri nations, not Rugby union tri nations (see point 2)
I hope that helps--HamedogTalk|@ 15:38, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Come on Yorkshire, no one is being bias, its almost crazy to even compare to the two tournaments. International league is not really that big. Its a pity that you seem to be voting against the move to "draw a line in the sand". Cvene64 15:35, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
BTW Cvene64, i got an edit conflict with u!--HamedogTalk|@ 15:38, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah true. No worries :) Cvene64 15:46, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New move[edit]

I suggested a new move, see Talk:Rugby Union Tri Nations. Yorkshire Phoenix (talkcontribs) 10:18, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What a Joke[edit]

I love my league as much as the next guy (go the Raiders!) but to have the Tri Nations and Rugby League Tri Nations as equals is, frankly, a joke. For a start the Rugby League Tri Nations does not even exist anymore, was around for a shorter amount of time and is much, much less popular. They are both great sports and moving the Union page to "Tri Nations" is not a slight against league - its just accepting the reality that one tournament is vastly more important than the other. 130.56.87.136 (talk) 00:36, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
