Propose Name Change and Move[edit]

Truckee was (Old) Chief Winnemucca, born a Shoshoni. He married a Paiute woman, thus becoming Paiute himself. He was called Truckee due to a misunderstanding by an explorer named Stevens, who, upon introducing himself to Winnemucca as Stevens, mistook Winnemucca's comment "Truck-ee" (Paiute: all right), as him giving his name, rather than as his acknowledgement that he had understood Stevens' name. The name stuck. Poito (aka Bad Face, Wobitsawahkah, Mubetawakah) was his son-in-law, who married his daughter, Tuboitonie and those two were the parents of Sarah Winnemucca. (Old) Chief Winnemucca later honored his son-in-law by giving him his own name, Winnemucca, whereupon he was referred to as Winnemucca the Younger. Duff (talk) 11:26, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like the best approach.Autarch (talk) 21:30, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Prophet?[edit]

The Religious Beliefs and Influences section remarks that Truckee was widely regarded as a prophet, but there's no real source for this section besides one for the last two sentence, but that source doesn't seem to back up the rest of it. I'm having trouble finding a source on my own, so I'm not sure where this claim comes from, so it would be nice if someone could provide a source for it.
