Is this still a stub?[edit]

There's a bit more information in this article now, but it probably needs to be divided into sections and to have the history fleshed out more. At what point does this article cease to be a stub? Colonel Tom 22:53, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article has now been expanded upon and should be reclassified as it no longer fits the category of 'stub'. Astaga100 (talk) 21:49, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

First sentence - origins of Trugo[edit]

The report cited at the end of sentence 1, that is, the Hobsons Bay report does not say Trugo was "invented" in the Newport Rail Yards. It says Trugo is "said to have been invented". The Hobsons Bay report does not give any authority for this statement. My conversations with present day players (2012) leads me to observe that the story that workers in the Newport yards played a game involving mallets, doughnut shaped shock absorbers from rolling stock buffers and some form of goal has widespread currency. Unfortunately, this oral tradition is not supported by any documentary evidence other than reportage of accounts from various individuals. MickeyG56 (talk) 16:31, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Correct. There are no primary sources that connect the game of Trugo to the Newport Railway Workshops. Even secondary sources that refer to the connection seem relatively recent e.g. 1980s (?). However, given the current strong oral tradition I traced various elements of the story back through media reports from the1950s to the 1940s and then placed it in the context of Thomas Grieves biography and I now believe Trugo's history does lead back to the Victorian Railway's activities in Newport. At this stage, 'inspired by activities at the Newport Railway Workshops' seems the safest way to go. I hope to expand on these connections in a history of Trugo that I'm currently researching.
