  • Cakobau WAS recognized as Tui Viti by the United States as early as the 1850s. His claim to the title was unrecognized by most of his fellow-chiefs, but accepted by the United States. That was why they billed him for the looting of an American settler's property on Nukulau Island, which was not under his authority at all. He couldn't deny responsibility for it, however, without renouncing his self-conferred Tui Viti title.
  • When Cakobau ceded Fiji to the United Kingdom, he did so in his capacity as Tui Viti.
  • I've deleted the claim that any Vunivalu could claim the title. I very much question that. In ceding the islands, Cakobau ceded the kingship to Queen Victoria. Although Fiji is now a republic, the chiefs still recognize Queen Elizabeth II as their most senior chief. If anyone could assert a claim to the Tui Viti title, I think it would be Elizabeth. If the chiefs were to decided to discontinue recognition of Elizabeth as their Great Chief, that might throw the ballgame open. But I don't know. I hope somebody can clarify that.

I feel the above two articles should be made sections of this article, thoughts and feedback on this merge would be appreciated, Vinaka, Maikeli MB 22:24, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They're three distinct titles. The title of "Paramount Chief" is, de facto, a recent yet retroactive one, and belongs to the republican era. The title "Queen of Fiji" applies to the post-colonial monarchy (Fiji as a Commonwealth realm, 1970-87), at a time when the title Tui Viti was not (as far as I can tell) really in usage. A merger would seem confusing. Aridd (talk) 11:56, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Query on Edward VIII[edit]

The Article states that - Edward VIII is not included on the list as abdication has no precedent on Fijian title holding system as title can only be passed on after death of holder, therefore his one year tenure as King of the United Kingdom in 1936 can be ignored and George VI assumes the title. But this seems incorrect. If title can only be passed at death then wouldn't Edward VIII hold the title until his death in the 1972? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.88.118.34 (talk) 20:24, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was about to ask the same question. George VI surely cannot have received the title on the death of George V in January 1936, since at that point he wasn't expected to be George VI. Indeed, had Edward VIII not abdicated, and had he had no children, the monarchy would have gone: Edward VIII (1936-72); Elizabeth II (1972-date) and George VI, having predeceased Edward VIII, would never have become king at all. So the table doesn't seem correct. 86.132.138.15 (talk) 18:58, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. We'd need some sort of source to rectify and clarify the article. I'm not sure where to find one, though. Perhaps in the absence of sources to the contrary, the article should match the British succession, and note Edward VIII and George V as each being Tui Viti during their respective reigns as King of Britain? THE REAL TUI VITI WAS THE ANCIENT TUI BUROTU(TUI PULOTU)EMPIRE LINEAGE[edit]

The real Tui Viti was the ancient Tui Burotu/(Tui Pulotu) lineage who once ruled Fiji and the whole Pacific Islands before anyone else from the early BC to 800yrs AD..People saying that theres no Tui Viti lineage in Fiji because of what Ratu Cakobau did to most places around Fiji in the 18th century.

But He did that to try and feel in the shoes of an earlier paramount king of Fiji 2 century earlier named Ratu Vueti.Who was given the sacred Tawake which represented the flag to lead the whole Fijian race in the 16th century AD.We all knew the story of how he had an affair with a lady from Nakorotubu Ra which resulted on the birth of Nadurucoko l,who fathered Nadurucoko ll,the first Vunivalu of Bau.Whose household then raised Cakobau later on.

But Ratu Vueti came from the ancient lineage of the original Tui Burotu/ (Tui Pulotu) who were Lewanavanua l's(Koya Na Sau/Ratu Levu) descendants that used to settle the maritime magnetic stone city which once reign on a reef from Lomaiviti in the early BC to 8th century AD.Koya Na Sau was the eldest son of Tui Wai(Tui Waicalanavanua l(Lutudra/Catanatamani l or QioVula)..

The original QioVula was the same person known as Lutudra/Tui Waicalanavanua l nd Catanatamani l.He had 11 children not 8 as some people said. From the 11 children,he had 10 sons known as the yavusa tinitini or 10 tribes nd the 11th child was a female..Those 10 sons erected their stone fort on that reef from Lomaiviti closer to Tailevu. They possesed all the secrets of powers nd magic from their pre-flood world to rule nd colonised the world after the flood. They created the first civilisation known scientifically as the Lemurian giants nd demigods. No they were those Lomaivitis' ten tribes(yavusa tinitini)..

They were the ones that colonised Noahs descendants on the flatland of shinar, nowadays on the south of Iraq.Which was the Babel tower construction. We can sensed that in Genesis 11 by the mentioning of stone nd asphalt as the pre used materials before they introduced baked bricks nd mortar. As natural asphalt of that time can only be found on ocean floors or sea floors, where Noahs descendants knew nothing about, because they came down from the mountains of Ararat. From there(Shinar)they moved on to colonised Persia,Greece,Egypt,Rome nd the Anglo(England) American kingdom.

Even the Italian Born ancient Greek writer called Diodorus Siculus wrote that the ancient Egyptians claimed that their ancestors were strangers. They used to live at the back of the Nile in remote times. They brought with them their art of civilization from their motherland, the art of writing nd a polished language. They came from the direction of the setting sun. That direction is where Fiji is located since Fiji is geographically located where the sunrises nd sets.

Their stronghold magnetic stone fort based on that Lomaiviti reef by the south east Moturiki was flooded during the rising sealevel in the 8th century AD. Then the remnants of the occupants transported those stones to NW Pacific. It still stands there to this day known as Nan Madol.

So theres no need to claim other made up dynasties or saying that theres no Tui Viti in Fiji. Because the decendants are still living today in Fiji and abroad. One of that Tui Burotu lineage called Rawakanivugayali(Turas brother) later went on to settle Dreketi village(Nakorovou today, Rewa) and his eldest son Tui Wai was known as a Tui Viti that later ended up in Samoa as Tui Fiti.

Read Isaiah 41:1-7;25-26 to know that old lineage nd the future one who shall be raised by God Himself is mentioned on verse 25-26.He will activate the Holy Kingdom works to spread Gods kingdom to the lost who still believe in the dark.
