Warning / Lulworth Military Range[edit]

The Lulworth Ranges are owned by the Ministry of Defence and are part of the Armoured Fighting Vehicles Gunnery School. The 7500 acre hectare ranges lie within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and stretches along the Jurassic Coastline between Lulworth Cove to just west of Kimmeridge.

Tanks and Armoured vehicles are used in this area and shells are fired. Due to safety reasons, right of entry to this region is only possible when the army ranges are not in operation. Red flags are flown and warning lamps are lit when the range is in military use. At such times the entrance gates are locked and wardens patrol the area.

Access to the region is by foot either from Tyneham car park or via the South West Coast Path. The range walks and coast path are open most weekends and some weekdays. Visitors are warned to keep to the footpaths. These are cleared of any unexploded ordnance between the yellow markers, but occasionally unexploded shells can be washed up onto the beach, they are dangerous and should not be touched or moved. --Huligan0 (talk) 18:17, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
