Not biggest private-built sub[edit]

UC3 Nautilus is not the biggest private-built submarine. There is a sub built in Netherland that is approx. 20 meters long called Spurdog —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.32.134.63 (talk) 22:03, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Columbian and Mexican drug cartels have built some small submersibles. Including one sub 100 ft long capable of operating at a depth of thirty feet and carrying 200 tons of cargo. -- Naaman Brown (talk) 12:58, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the claim, after finding two larger privately made submarines which both existed before and during the time of the UC3. They were the SR93H Polaris-Delta, and the Spurdog. My search didn't include any "amateur" submersibles such as the ones the cartels made. Runipedia (talk) 14:37, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Formats?[edit]

1) The article mainly uses DMY for dates {{use dmy dates}}.
2) Context is local as per MOS:TIME, so Time should follow Danish practice of 24-hour clock.
3) British English is the closest, which also seems to used by the organization (WP:engvar).

Kim Wall[edit]

Kim Wall's disappearance is covered (and updated when news appear) in UC3 Nautilus, in Peter Madsen (inventor), and in Kim Wall (journalist). Where does it belong? I think perhaps under Kim Wall only, wikilinked form the other two.-- (talk) 20:07, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think her story is an integral part of the story of the sinking of the submarine.
I don't know that you could convey all the facts about the sinking and its possible causes without describing almost everything known about Wall's disappearance. ApLundell (talk) 20:35, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I propose that rather than an article about the Nautilus or about Kim Wall, an article be created about the events of the last week that incorporates the two. I'm very new to editing Wikipedia, so apologies if this isn't couched in the right terminology or in the right place. Nlewendon (talk) 11:55, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly object. It is a strange Idea to summarize the live of the journalist under a technical article. The news does refer to the journalist and this with her name in the headlines

example: BBC startingpage "Kim Wall: Torso found amid search for submarine journalist" http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-41007410 and this article does not even mention the name of the submarine calling it 40 Ton Vessel.

Or other example: CNN "Police searching for missing journalist Kim Wall find headless torso", not mentioning the name of the sub in the article text at all only as caption of the picture. (http://edition.cnn.com/2017/08/22/europe/kim-wall-denmark/index.html)

I will remove the proposal to merge the article into UC3 Nautilus. Best regards -- Neozoon 13:01, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

UC3 Nautilus is pretty much a static story; the story of the death of Kim Wall is developing into a on-going unfolding crime story, paricularly as Peter Madsen changes his recounting as evidence is discovered contradicting his prior accounts. A summary of her death here and a link to the developing story would be more manageable. -- Naaman Brown (talk) 13:05, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Photos[edit]

So, UC3 has been salvaged, and put under police control. It's stored outside, as such, new photos can be obtained, for more views of the sub. Also scale photos of it next to police and salvage equipment. -- 65.94.170.48 (talk) 11:24, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Min helt egen ubåd"[edit]

"Min helt egen ubåd" (2009) "My Own Private Submarine" -- Danish documentary about the Nautilus. [1] an hour long documentary was made about this sub -- 65.94.170.48 (talk) 12:32, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Art project"?[edit]

The second sentence in the lede states that the submarine "...was built over a three-year period as an art project..." This is confusing, since Madsen is never referred to as an "artist" in the rest of the article; he's referred to as an "engineer" and "entrepreneur". Indeed, the only mention of "art" in relation to Madsen or the UC3 Nautilus is under the heading "Launch", where it states that the submarine was "...named at a well-attended ceremony on the west side of Refshaleøen and towed to the floating installation art barge Illutron (formerly M/S Half Machine) in the Kongens Enghave, where further outfitting and installation of equipment took place over the next several months." (emphasis mine) On the official website of this "art barge" it is described as being a sort of "maker" facility where people can use machinery and space for fabrication (site); not atypical with creative collaboration spaces made use of by artists, "makers", etc. But this doesn't confer the status of "art" on anything and everything that is worked on at such a facility. Unless a more appropriate term can be found for the submarine than "art project", I think that the phrase should be removed. Bricology (talk) 16:46, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removed. No evidence it was created as art. Runipedia (talk) 14:43, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
