Italy is ready for playoffs, they'll finish second in the group. I grabbed the yellow coloring from men's 2004 Euro qualification, there were playoffs involved there too. Lejman (talk) 21:24, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Third place playoffs[edit]

I looked into the third place playoffs some:

Group 1: England and Spain will finish top two. Czech Republic will finish third, with 8 points, enough to reach playoffs.
The points Czech Republic have remaining after the points vs Northern Ireland have been deducted:
Czech Republic - 8 points.

Group 2: Sweden has won the group, Italy is second. Irland will finish 3rd, with 6, 7 or 9 points depending on their result against Sweden.
Ireland - 6, 7 or 9p.

Group 3: France has won the group, Iceland is second. Slovenia will finish 3rd, with 6 points. Their result against Greece in the final game doesn't matter, as Greece will finish bottom of the group.
Slovenia - 6p, -14 goal difference.

Group 4: Germany has won the group. Switzerland needs to win against Germany to finish 2nd. If they do, Netherlands will finish 3rd. Either way, Netherlands will qualify for playoffs. If Switzerlands draws Germany, they will finish 3rd, but qualify as one of the top four 3rds. If they lose against Germany, they will be eliminated.
Netherlands - 6p, -2 goal difference. Switzerland - 5 or 6p (with 5p: -9 or worse gd. With 6p: -8 goal difference)

Group 5: Ukraine and Denmark will finish top two. Scotland finished third and is ready for playoffs as one of the top four thirds.
Scotland - 6p (with +5 goal difference).

Group 6: Norway and Russia will finish top two. Austria finished third, with 3 points. They will not reach the playoffs.
(Austria - 3p)

Possible thirds' points:
Czech Republic (Gr 1) - 8
Ireland (Gr 2) - 6/7/9
Scotland (Gr 5) - 6 (+5)
Netherlands (Gr 4) - 6 (-2)
Slovenia (Gr 3) - 6 (-14)
Switzerland (Gr 4) - 5/6
Austria (Gr 6) - 3

Ireland qualify for playoffs if they win, draw, or lose by 8 goals or less, vs Sweden, or if Switzerland lose to Germany.
Slovenia qualify for playoffs if Ireland lose by 9 goals or more vs Sweden, or if Switzerland lose to Germany.
Switzerland qualify for playoffs if they draw or win vs Germany.

Matches affecting which third place teams will qualify for playoffs:

  • Oct 1 Sweden - Rep of Ireland
  • Oct 2 Switzerland - Germany
