Rumored Fights[edit]

Any of them yet for UFC 108. Forrestdfuller (talk)

Rumors have no place on Wikipedia.
--Drr-darkomen (talk) 22:43, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I was wondering if anything was talked about for UFC 108. Forrestdfuller (talk)

  • Had no idea that was your edit... of course you know of the policy. lol... sorry about that. I haven't heard anything about this one. --Drr-darkomen (talk) 03:17, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah, i have heard nothing yet aswell, i havent heard the rumors yet —Preceding unsigned comment added by Punisher88 (talkcontribs) 06:58, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort[edit]

http://mmajunkie.com/news/16557/anderson-silva-vs-vitor-belfort-at-ufc-108-up-in-the-air-pending-doctors-orders.mma

For now, this fight is not a cert. All fights on wiki at the moment are not officially confirmed, but are by other sources.

Silva vs. Belfort is up in the air whilst Silva's medical clearance is not guaranteed. Paralympiakos (talk) 23:07, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It has been confirmed by Dana White to the Los Angeles times, citing a verbal agreement amongst both fighters. Gamezero05 (talk) http://www.cbssports.com/mma/story/12279036 —Preceding undated comment added 23:21, 26 October 2009 (UTC).[reply]

As was Carwin-Lesnar for 106. Look what happened to that. Since that linked article, you may notice that the bout is "up in the air" meaning it's no longer a guaranteed bout, thus shouldn't be included in the wiki page.Paralympiakos (talk) 23:29, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Carwin and Lesnar 106 was going to happen. An injury forced Lesnar out. Carwin-Lesnar for 108 has just as much credibility as Silva-Belfort. In fact, the Lesnar-Carwin 108 is based on what people have said on Twitter. My link says NOTHING about it being "up in the air". This is what it does say, however: "UFC president Dana White recently confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that the bout has been verbally agreed to by both fighters." It absoluetly should be included. Gamezero05 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:34, 26 October 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Your source is from a month ago. Mine is from a week ago. Therefore, comments from Silva's manager suggest that the fight isn't guaranteed to take place, therefore has no place on the page. Don't send personal messages allstar, keep it in here. By the same token as your message, who are YOU to change it? Paralympiakos (talk) 23:39, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He is still set to fight at UFC 108. He may pull out from the fight based on what the doctor says. But as of now, he has verbally agreed to fight. --Gamezero05 (talk) 23:47, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Verbally agreed to, but if someone is injured, then it's not regarded as finalised. Verbal vs Actual signing is different. Carwin and Lesnar are signed to fight each other, I'd imagine. Only the date is unconfirmed after today's new news. Silva vs Belfort is only a verbal agreement from last month, before this week's developments. As such, its up in the air and shouldn't be on here. I can't be bothered with an editing war, so I'm not going to edit it again, but it shouldn't be on there. Paralympiakos (talk) 23:52, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Machida vs Rua is on wikipedia.. and that fight is TBA.. it's only a verbal agreement. On both Silva's page and Belfort's page have the fight as slated for UFC 108. It's not like I just wanted to be an ass. It's on both of their pages. --Gamezero05 (talk) 00:01, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, fair enough then. In which case, it'll need removing. The match will most likely take place at some point, but it's not officially signed for; only that both have said they'll take it. Nor is the location/date confirmed. I feel that Silva-Belfort is the same as this in that I've not heard of a proper signing, only a verbal agreement like Machida-Rua Paralympiakos (talk) 00:03, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whoever put Machida vs Rua and Lesnar vs Carwin up there but took Silva vs Belfort down is wrong and has no idea what they are talking about. As of now Machida can't even Fight till early February unless a doctor clears him. .--Allstar13 (talk) 02:50, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Machida is out for 60 days, meaning late December. I didn't put the match up, but it's viable Paralympiakos (talk) 14:26, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Main-event winner Lyoto Machida who earned a unanimous-decision win over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua was suspended for 60 days, including 60 days without contact, for a left upper-lip laceration." He Still needs time to train after the time is up, so at best its early February. Unless he is cleared by a doctor for contact sooner.--Allstar13 (talk) 18:30, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I still disagree with this fight being on the wiki page, but it seems that persistence has led it to be there. HOWEVER, there is zero confirmation of the event being called "UFC 108: Silva vs. Belfort" There's very little confirmation of the fight being signed for, other than VERBAL confirmation and now there's an injury to Silva. As that is, there's no official name for UFC 108 like there is for 106/107 etc Paralympiakos (talk) 18:38, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreeing with Paralympiakos on this one. Last years New Years event was called "The Ultimate 2008." So unless you've got some material to reference then it shouldn't be named anything yet. Who says it won't be called something with Brock now that he's on the card also? (pinchet (talk) 18:51, 28 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]
Is there any way of getting user blocked? He or she is a wind-up merchant and respectable users have to undo almost all of his/her edits because they are just vandalism —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paralympiakos (talkcontribs) 18:54, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing says Lesnar is actually on the card yet. Just because Carwin tweeted it does not mean its true. Who really knows how long Lesnar will be sick and how much time he will need to recover and train.--Allstar13 (talk) 18:57, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That doesn't change the fact that you still have no sources for "Silva vs. Belfort" as the name. Stop editing it in unless you have a reliable source. (pinchet (talk) 18:58, 28 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

No matter the source, if it has come from the fighter themselves, it is usually reliable. Stop adding the name of the PPV without a source.

"UFC 108: Silva vs Belfort" That is what it says on Silva's Wikipedia page. Wikipedia is a reliable source right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anderson_Silva It also states it on Belfort's page as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitor_Belfort--Allstar13 (talk) 19:05, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, wiki is not a reliable source for itself. Those pages shouldn't say "Silva vs. Belfort" either. I'm too lazy to go digging but I wouldn't doubt it was you that added it on those pages too. (pinchet (talk) 19:20, 28 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

It wasn't me that edited those pages. http://urdirt.com/2009/10/01/ufc-108-silva-vs-belfort-rumors/ Its UFC 108: Silva vs. Belfort until further notice now please leave it alone and have a nice day.--Allstar13 (talk) 19:28, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While the source you've provided has questionabl reliability, I've gone looking for some confirmation of my own only to find the first webpage I checked had the name you claimed. http://www.sherdog.com/events/UFC-108-Silva-vs-Belfort-11471 All we were asking for were sources, which you could not provide until multiple edits later, and one that you still have not sourced on the actual wiki page. I'm not going to bother editing the name in across the multitude of UFC pages that 108 is linked to because I'm 99% sure the name will change in the near future, especially now that Brock is on the card. Now what was the point of all that edit warring? (pinchet (talk) 21:43, 28 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Going back to that "urdirt" source. I've never even seen that website being referenced before. I could quite easily create a website and claim that UFC will be titled "UFC 108: We've given up" and you'd believe it. Unless it's a reliable source, which I doubt that is, then it has no place here. In addition, you may note that your own source states that Silva vs Belfort is a rumour, not a certainty. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:53, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing says Lesnar is on the card. No one out there has said how sick he is and how long he will be out. Lesnar vs Carwin shoudn't even be considered on the card yet much less giving it naming rights.--Allstar13 (talk) 23:31, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'm hopefully not going to have to say this again. Carwin has confirmed the bout has been rearranged for this card. So has the UFC in a link I can't be bothered to find. Silva's match is in the air, which has been said by many sources and links that you've chosen to ignore. Therefore, Carwin-Lesnar is far more likely to be at 108 than Silva-Belfort. REGARDLESS, the event does NOT have a name. For one second, if you are trying to name this event, take out your disagreement about what matches will take place and just listen. THERE IS NO NAME FOR THIS EVENT IN ANY RELIABLE SOURCE! Paralympiakos (talk) 23:58, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the fighter himself has stated it, I believe that over a gossip column, such as the sources you've provided. http://uk.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=23331 also suggests early 2010, which when combined with Carwin stating UFC 108, makes me believe that's 100% true. Again though (and stop ignoring this question), why do you believe the event is called "UFC 108: Silva vs. Belfort" ????

There is no reliable source whatsoever that suggests that. Answer the question before vandalising the page Paralympiakos (talk) 00:18, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just to add to this: http://mmajunkie.com/event/657/ufc-108.mma (pinchet (talk) 00:22, 29 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Ladies and gentlemen; I give you your truth http://mmajunkie.com/news/16684/anderson-silva-vs-vitor-belfort-not-happening-at-ufc-108-in-january.mma

Just like I said, Silva will not be fighting. I trust this ends the matter. Paralympiakos (talk) 21:53, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It turns out Silva isn't fighting in 108... but he was planned to. Until he pulled out, the bout was still on. So yes, it ends the matter now. But prior to this new information, it was perfectly reasonable to say Silva vs Belfort was still on for 108.--76.4.57.215 (talk) 01:02, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Planned to, but several reports for weeks said it wasn't going to happen through injury. Certain members on here disagreed, but I did say it was a false fight. Paralympiakos (talk) 01:53, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A false fight? It was still a planned fight for that date no matter what the rumors said. Until the recent official word it should have still been on the card. And like I said before putting Lesnar's fight up on 108 was premature because nobody knew out sick he was and when he would be able to train. It doesn't what Carwin said on his twitter.--Allstar13 (talk) 22:44, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was a "planned fight" according to the rumours. Double standards, no? Point is, I was right. I said it over and over and you vandalised and made personal attacks. Can you say Paralympiakos 1 Allstar13 0 :) Paralympiakos (talk) 23:59, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was a planned fight according to Dana White not rumors. You were still wrong about Lesnar vs Carwin. So you do not win anything. Allstar13 loses at life in general and notice how I don't delete your post, but you have deleted my multiple times.--Allstar13 (talk) 23:57, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Card Changes[edit]

Do we really need to have the changes all in bullets? Why cant it be like how it is for all the other events and just have it written in the Background? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trunks8719 (talkcontribs) 19:52, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

entrance music[edit]

Can someone with permission start adding the entrance music? Some of it has been pretty sad for these fights tonight. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.156.65.133 (talk) 04:37, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 14 November 2022[edit]

The section describing the event states that ANDERSON SILVA would be matched against Rashad Evans, but it was THIAGO SILVA who was to be matched against Evans. The poster for the event also shows Thiago, not Anderson. 2600:8807:A782:2A00:B429:9465:141E:1F9F (talk) 00:42, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. —Sirdog (talk) 04:42, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
