UP UST off season games[edit]

Moved from User talk:McVahl
 – McVahl (talk) 04:15, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Could you put the off season games in a different section inside the article? Those particular data make the infobox a lil bit bulky. I sometimes use an iPad, and from here, the infovox takes up half of the space of the article. Thank you! Pampi1010 (talk) 13:51, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pampi1010: Looking at other rivalry articles esp the good ones, they don't discuss that much about offseason games. Maybe I'll update UP–UST rivalry to remove those and our focus must be on regular events id est the UAAP.
Re: Attendance column in results - can we omit this? Unlike "Venue", Attendance data will never be complete for that list. It would be better to present the table only with available information for each entry in the list. – McVahl (talk) 06:41, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Re: Attendance: Okay. But could we replace it with another column instead? Just like the Ateneo-La Salle rivalry table? Pampi1010 (talk) 08:00, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Could you help me bulking this article up? University of Santo Tomas in popular culture Thank you! Pampi1010 (talk) 08:06, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pampi1010: Which column in Ateneo-La Salle rivalry table? The “series” column? – McVahl (talk) 08:14, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I was referring to the Notes column instead.mPampi1010 (talk) 12:06, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pampi1010: I'm OK with the replacement "Notes" column. But if notes can be presented in paragraph form or sectional content, you may consider rivalry articles that meet the Good Article (GA) criteria as the baseline. For example: Duke–Michigan men's basketball rivalry, Johns Hopkins–Maryland lacrosse rivalry, and Redbirds–Sounds rivalry. Thanks. – McVahl (talk) 13:03, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I specifically looked for those rivalry articles hehe. gonna review them. thanks! whats your major in ust? Pampi1010 (talk) 15:30, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And also, you didn't have to delete the off-season tilts. They were nice added info that just did not look good in an iPad. Maybe you could bring them back? Thanks Pampi1010 (talk) 15:37, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The source for the results of the MBT games from 2001 to 2005 (and applicable to 2008) is a web archive http://ubelt.com/uaap/mbb/games.aspx. This archive is also cited in the La Salle - UST rivalry. I don't like how that article cited the source. In Johns Hopkins–Maryland lacrosse rivalry, they put their sources at the end of the table. Can I do that in UP-UST also? Can an archive be used as a source? However, not all of the results came from that web archive. Thank you! Pampi1010 (talk) 19:07, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And can we just do this in the article's talk page? thank you! Pampi1010 (talk) 19:31, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pampi1010: Archives are allowed as per WP:LINKROT, considering your archived pages are reliable sources. Since we're discussing historical data/statistics here, though incomplete, you may also check Google News Archive for other sources. However, it would be a daunting task if you don't have the specific date for the newspaper you need. (FYI, I used this to look for UST Growling Tigers men's basketball references. For example, in 1996 season—Atencio, Peter (October 8, 1996). "Four-rific!". Manila Standard. Retrieved December 16, 2019.) – McVahl (talk) 04:15, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Let's make this one a good article? Haha!@McVahl: Pampi1010 (talk) 18:09, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pampi1010: Can we update the men's basketball results table to split results into two: (1) Pre-Final four era; and (2) Final four era (1993–present)? The two teams first met in 1920s as founding members of NCAA, eventually in 1938 for UAAP, and I assume we will never have complete set of data here. We cannot even verify if infobox stat for win streak is correct or not while reader would assume it is based on the games since first meeting. If the focus is on Final Four era only, then stats will make sense. What do you think? – McVahl (talk) 06:27, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@McVahl: That's a great idea! Ill try to split it... but maybe, do the necessary changes, I dunno. I'm not too expert in wiki. I just copy from others. Thank you! Pampi1010 (talk) 11:20, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@McVahl: I'm thinking of putting up an Ateneo-UST rivalry article as this also would have more references. Color contrast would be great too! lol. But I just dont like being dragged too much here in Wikipedia. I stayed up so many nights for the UP-UST article. Bahala na. Haha. Pampi1010 (talk) 16:57, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pampi1010: If rivalry between two teams was so intense and sent media into frenzies, why not? :) – McVahl (talk) 17:51, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@McVahl: Weird. I've been blocked from editing again. This happened to me twice already. But I get unblocked after a few hours later without asking anyone. By the way, where did you get the NCAA info? thanks
@Pampi1010: List of NCAA men's basketball champions can be found in this article. Reference is provided. – McVahl (talk) 12:11, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@McVahl: Could you help me put this in the Tambayan Philippines project? How do I do that? I want to put some UST-related articles under it. Thank you!Pampi1010 (talk) 16:33, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Simply add tag {{WPPhilippines}} on article’s talk page (topmost). – McVahl (talk) 18:41, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@McVahl: Could help me report user:Youaretheoneinmymind? His Talk page has received a lot of comolaints for nuisance editing since at least 2014. And he never responded to any of it. Thank you! - Pampi1010 (talk) 14:17, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Women's basketball[edit]

@McVahl and Pampi1010:, could we add a section for women's basketball? I saw this post on GameFace about their championship rivalry from 1976 until 1985 (but I couldn't find any online references for it).

This is what I've come up with so far:

Women's basketball[edit]

After a dominant four-peat championship run by the FEU Lady Tamaraws that began in the inaugural four-school women's basketball tournament in 1950, UAAP decided to discontinue the women's tournament.

When women's basketball had resumed in 1976, UP and UST began to form a decade-long rivalry of finals matches where they took turns in finishing as champions and runners-up. The Lady Parrots went on a three-peat from Seasons 39 to 41 with UST taking the title in 1978, just before UP ran another streak, this time on a four-peat run from Seasons 43 to 46. The Lady Goldies got back at them with a back-to-back win in 1984 and 85.

UST's championship streak continued with a four-peat from Seasons 50 to 53, but with other opponents this time.

Championship tally[edit]

UP victoriesUST victories
No. Season Year Champion Runner-up
1 39 1976 UP UST
2 40 1977 UP UST
3 41 1978 UP UST
4 42 1979 UST UP
5 43 1980 UP UST
6 44 1981 UP UST
7 45 1982 UP UST
8 46 1983 UP UST
9 47 1984 UST UP
10 48 1985 UST UP

Well I dunno. If you can put reference to those games like what we did for men's games and cdc, then why not? Their rivalry is virtually inexistent today, but if it happened before and there was at least a bit of media mileage, it certainly warrants a section. I actually want to put up a section of women's volleyball since its kind of existing now, but there isn't really enough media buzz to it. Theres UST vs. DLSU then FEU then ADMU before UP.Pampi1010 (talk) 16:08, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Men's basketball: 2020-21[edit]

Hi, @Pampi1010:,

Just hoping to clarify regarding the last line that mentions Jordi GDL as "the first UPIS graduate to play for the Tigers in decades," didn't Gelo Sablan also graduate from UPIS? (source)

NRT^530 (talk) 12:15, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I totally forgot about him! Thank you very much for reminding me! I will retract that. Pampi1010 (talk) 12:46, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Just doing my part in improving this article. You're doing a great job in putting this project together.
