LHD vs. LHA

Does anyone know why the Navy invented the new "hull classification symbol" LHD for the Wasp class ships instead of numbering them as LHA's? In Ships & Aircraft of the U.S. Fleet (18th ed., 2005, page 184) Norman Polmar wrote that they should be LHA's, but did not explain why they are not. They are not that different from the Tarawa (LHA-1) class ships, which were the 1st U.S. amphibious assault ships to have both a full length flight deck for helicopters, and a well deck for landing craft. The LPH amphibious assault ships (the 7 ships of the Iwo Jima (LPH-2) class, 3 converted Essex class aircraft carriers, and one converted Casablanca class escort aircraft carrier) had only flight decks. The differences between the Iwo Jima class ships and the converted aircraft carriers were much greater than those between the Tarawa class and the Wasp class.Wjwtk (talk) 22:57, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

May 2019 events

Hi @Bonewah:! I think that the patches incident during President Trump's May 2019 visit to the ship merits inclusion in the article. The incident is clearly notable; it's been covered by a whole slew of news sources across the political spectrum, including big, reputable papers like the Post. Trump's visit is clearly notable enough to be mentioned in our article, and most of the coverage of his visit mentions the patches incident. --Chumash11 (talk) 20:56, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Im not so sure. Everything Trump gets media coverage, but that does not mean it is of lasting notability. What does knowing that there is an investigation about it really tell us about the Ship itself? Not much in my opinion. Bonewah (talk) 12:40, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
@Bonewah, you clearly just removed the text about the president's visit for political reasons. Feel free to change it, but deleting other people's hard work for petty reasons continues to make me question Wikipedia's poor leadership decisions... Snitch ninja (talk) 07:05, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
I deleted the content for the reasons i stated. Just because something makes an appearance in the media does not mean it warrants inclusion all over Wikipedia. What happens to the sailors in question is of little import to the ship itself, this is just more political in fighting that has no place here. Bonewah (talk) 13:04, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
