Uniflow Rotary Alternative to Piston[edit]

By having an exhaust port at the end of the stroke, piston uniflow design needs to recompress residual gas, with some reversibility losses. Furthermore, the recompression pressure makes a substantial restriction to the initial steam flow into the chamber, while the truncated stroke near BDC (bottom dead center) shorten the expansion cycle. New engine concept like the Quasiturbine rotary design allows uniflow, without any of these concerns. Animation speed[edit]

As someone new to this topic, trying to understand the operation, I found the animation much to fast to follow what was going on. Do others agree? Might we be able to produce a new one that runs slower, or slow this one down?

Exact numbers[edit]

it seems that Skinner Unaflow engines had the highest thermal efficiency of all steam engines. But this article lacks exact numbers of how great efficiency was achieved. Nikolas Ojala (talk) 12:26, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling?[edit]

Is it "uniflow" or "unaflow"...? The attached ref spells it "uniflow". A Google search shows predominantly "uniflow", but some pages have the spelling as "unaflow" Can we get a conformation on which is correct? It's affecting other articles. Thanks - ^theWOLFchild 22:17, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If in doubt, uniflow (uncapitalised). "Skinner Unaflow" (capitalised) or "Unaflow" is a term for that one specific marine steam engine, as used on SS Badger and others. Andy Dingley (talk) 07:40, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
