I have changed two references to student bedsits in this article as it is factually incorrect. As an alumni of Swansea University and a former resident of Uplands it is factually incorrect to suggest that the majority of housing in the area are student bedsits. In fact, the majority of the residents in Uplands are student houses and/or flats. Owing to popular misconception especially to non-students, the term 'student accommodation' only exists either in halls of residence or University managed property. As the majority of property in Uplands are privately leased to students (each resident having their individual landlord) and the students moving in to a property together (just as would a family or a couple married or otherwise) it is in fact a private home that students lease on an annual basis. The term student itself when considering this type of property is in fact irrelevant as anyone can rent these properties whether they be families or students. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.15.26.99 (talk) 20:51, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed the title of the article since the term Uplands is a geographical term - although I note that there is no article as such in Wikipedia! It is also incorrect to call it a "place in the county of Swansea" since it is quite clearly part of the built-up area of the city - even though Swansea is also a county. I cannot make much more of what the specific area called Uplands is or does: perhaps someone with local knowledge might be able to comment? It seems a very restricted area to me though! Google maps knows about it and thinks that it is here, based around Uplands Crescent.
I am local and could add a few snippets. It's certainly one of the most well-known regions within Swansea. But someone is adding tons and tons of "places in Swansea" to the Swansea article, and I'm not quite clear on the logic they're using to pick them. Some are regions, some are estates, some are council wards, and some are towns or villages. I live here, and I had to check where one or two of those were! And yet some very well-known distinctions and divisions are missing. So before launching into filling this out, I think it would be good to get some consensus on whether Wikipedia needs an article on every council ward in Britain (Uplands is also a council ward, with four councillors) or whether an article on "Places in and around Swansea", which could include them all, is more sensible. I have brought this up over on Talk:Swansea. See you there, then? --Telsa 18:01, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposed (Stella Maris primary school)[edit]

The result was: Merge a sentence into Uplands, Swansea, and propose Stella Maris primary school for deletion.--B. Wolterding 15:03, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to merge the content of Stella Maris primary school into here, since the notability of the school is not established. If it is really a school in Uplands, the one sentence from this article should simply be merged here. (Currently the school is not mentioned, and the school article does not cite sources.)

Please add your comments below. Proposed as part of the Notability wikiproject. --B. Wolterding 17:49, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it is more appropriate to simply delete this article now. Stella Maris is no longer is school and is used only as a convent see http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=11293 about what has happened to the school. Sloman 18:47, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The combination of a convent and former school is worth a mention. I have merged in. TerriersFan 01:32, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
