so which Urban explorer (as they call themselves) wrote this this journalistic mess...my guess}is a 905 escapee. the Uptown Theatre and the Elgin Winter Garden are not "nearby each other". They were quite far from each other. It was called uptown because at one time bloor street area was refered to as Uptown. There is a huge distance between bloor street and closer to Queen street, where the Elgin is.

I removed that sentence which besides being inaccurate, didn't make much sense (bridge between which two buildings?) Last time I was in the Uptown, I watched Love and Death. Modal Jig (talk) 14:51, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid you are wrong, in the important fact that you removed. The Uptown, like the Elgin & Winter Gardens and the Pantages (now the Ed Mirvish), had a narrow entance from Yonge Street with the actual theatre building located on a back street. There was a bridge at the Uptown which crossed a rear laneway, which serviced the other businesses fronting on Yonge Street. If, as you say, you have actually been at the theatre, you will remember ascending up a steep flight of stairs from the entrance and then, unknown to partons, you crossed a bridge to the main buiding. You actually entered on the same level as the balcony, where the concessions were, and had to descend to get to the ground level of the theatre. I hope this clarifies things for you. Thanks for the clarification. I vaguely remember the stairs. That information deserves to be in the article, but as written it wasn't clear to me what was going on, and "nearby" for the Elgin attracted the comment by the unnamed editor. Modal Jig (talk) 18:58, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
