- Meh, I'm not real happy with how that turned out. Wikipedia's guideline is to use internal rather than external links whenever possible ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:External_links ), but we still need articles on most of those. -- Writtenonsand 15:10, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- After adding replacement link directory such as VRML I removed all these unneeded links from article, because they are accessible from this Open Directory Project replacement. Wikinger (talk) 16:23, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Dead links
Two of the external links are dead. The one for the VRML and X3D Plugin Detector and the example at http://cic.nist.gov/vrml/nistlogo.wrl Please delete them. 69.138.64.243 (talk) 03:41, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

- Best practice isn't to simply delete dead links anyway. Tag them with {{dead link}} first. Then either find the same content at a different URL (many links become dead after site re-organisations and the content is still there, just moved) or else use http://archive.org to recover an old copy.
- Deleting dead links is only really needed if the link isn't worthwhile, or it can't be found after careful searching. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:26, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- I can't tag them with {{dead link}} if the page is still protected. The dead links that I'm pointing out are my own content that I have deleted from the NIST website. I no longer have the resources to maintain the pages. Old copies are not good as the content can get out-dated quickly. Please just delete the links.
