Unless the merge discussion's on the other talkpage it must be here and I'm first (?). I htink maybe a distinction ahs to be made here between thte VHHSC and the old VGH building and subbuildings, so I'm reserving Support/Oppose until I hear from others about this; University Hospital, Shaughnessy Hospital and others are now all under one management, but they're all over the city; on the other hand VGH's Heather Pavilion is a different building than the Willow Pavilion, adn taht new building is different again.....I'm leaning towards Oppose.....Skookum1 (talk) 05:24, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre no longer exists. It dissolved when Vancouver Coastal Health Authority was created. Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH) was created in December 2001 in a province-wide redesign of British Columbia’s health care system. Initially, health services were managed by 52 health entities, each with their own governance and administrative infrastructure. To eliminate duplication, reduce cost and improve efficiency, accountability and planning, the government merged these entities into five geographically defined regional health authorities, including Vancouver Coastal Health, and one special purpose health authority with a provincial mandate - the PHSA. That said, Vancouver Acute is a term that encapsulates UBC Hospital, GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre and Vancouver General Hospital. I would recommend changing the title of this page to "Vancouver Acute". www.vch.ca Vancouver Acute (talk) 23:14, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Further to the above, there is a separate site for each of UBC Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital and GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre. Due to this, this page should be deleted as it's duplication. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vancouver Acute (talkcontribs) 23:31, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am AGAINST the merger. VGH is a very common term, in regular use by the population at large as well as anyone doing business with the entity. It should remain as that is what everyone knows. The longer term is subject to change at the whim of bureaucrats. VGH will remain as the common term. --Achim (talk) 06:18, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This discussion is closed as VHHSC has now been absorbed into Vancouver Coastal Health, se below for discussion of a new merger proposal.Ng.j (talk) 23:01, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre be merged into Vancouver Coastal Health, since the former is defunct and has been absorbed into the latter. Ng.j (talk) 22:59, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
