Conflicting[edit]

This article states the story as fact, while the Frank Lucks Towers article (which links here) states that there is no evidence any one person was on all 3 voyages. --Spesek (talk) 22:40, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tower reportedly survived the RMS Titanic, RMS Empress of Ireland, and the RMS Lusitania. Jessop survived the Titanic, the HMHS Britannic, and the RMS Olympic. Different sinkings. There is no conflict. --DearPrudence (talk) 05:50, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I might add: in 1908, Jessop would have been 20 or 21. It is highly unlikely that she was still in school at that age and thus forced to leave by her mother's illness.68.72.105.106 (talk) 19:37, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It says that she attended a convent school. It's not unlikely that she was still attending it when she was 20 or 21. Think of "school," in this case, as university or college. --DearPrudence (talk) 04:48, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As further rebuttal to Tower's article, Violet's story is told in a biography of her entitled 'Titanic Survivor', edited by John Maxtone-Graham. Mr. Graham did substantial research in order to validate Violet's story. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.223.104.162 (talk) 15:46, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Last surviving Jessop[edit]

The end of a long journey for the jessop name lies totally with Phillip Jessop now 84 living in Brisbane Australia. Unfortunately a number of people have claimed Violet and her memoirs as means to monetary gain. Gerard Jessop the son of phillip jessop is now 55 yrs and living strong with a pride so deep for his great Aunt. Gerard too lives in brisbane Australia battling his own survival of three traumatic events in his life not unlike his great Aunt he has survived all three and still recovering. Violet and her life has inspred Gerard to hold onto life and survive. Phil Jessop was born in Whietrock south of Cairns in 1925 the Child of Elsie Victoria and William Jessop. Gerard Jessop was born in Cairns in 1954 the 17th August the child of Ellen Philomena and Phillip Joseph Jessop.

Violet's lifeboat[edit]

The article states that Violet was put into Lifeboat 16 when the Titanic sunk. According to her biography, Violet says that Mr. Ismay told her to get into a lifeboat. Henry Etchess, testifying during day eight of the Senate hearings, corroborates the story of a stewardess being told to get into a lifeboat by Mr. Ismay, but it was Lifeboat 5. Violet's lifeboat number is not shown in the Encyclopedia Titanica, but is shown in the Titanic Lifeboat Project as 16. This source also shows an unnamed 'stewardess' in Lifeboat 5, which appears to corroborate Violet's own story.

Dating format[edit]

I can't see any reason to use US style dates in this article. The ship is British, the subject is Irish, Argentina uses day-month-year dates. --Pete (talk) 23:33, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Titanic Survivor[edit]

No mention of this book (which she authored) in the article? Daphoenyx (talk) 17:46, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Assad Thomas cannot be the survivor that called her because he died from pneumonia in White Haven sanatorium on 12 June 1931 aged just 20. He was buried in St Mary's Cemetery in Wilkes-Barre. She received this phone call sometime after her retirement - decades after Assad died. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.122.238.225 (talk) 08:28, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My recent edits[edit]

I removed this footnote because it wasn't attached to any particular part of the article and it was unclear to me what the purpose was: ^ Brewster, Hugh and Laurie Coulter (1998). 882½ Amazing Answers to your Questions about the Titanic. Madison Press Book. ISBN 0-590-18730-9.. I wrote more in my edit summary that I'm happy to explain if anyone has questions, but briefly, I changed some of the wording that was very close, or exactly copied from Jessop's memoir and added more secondary sources, so that the whole thing isn't referenced to Jessop's primary account in her memoirs. FYI if anyone sees this and feels like improving the references, I got up to the later life section before I needed to take a break. Some or all of that information might be found in the new sources I added. PermStrump(talk) 00:28, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
