Played at Stalin's funeral?[edit]

???

At Prokofiev's surely? Not at both, since apparently not only did they die on the same day, but their funerals were at the same time - and Oistrakh played the first and third movements of the F minor sonata at Prokofiev's sonata at the composer's funeral. Must have been quite a rush to be back-and-forth to Stalin's funeral, too, to play them there. Anyway, Stalin's favorite music wasn't Prokofiev, but Mozart... Odd! Source? Date of premiere[edit]

A release of what I assume was the Oistrakh/Oborin premiere (live recording, on Brilliant Classics 8713-51) gives the date January 1 1946- assuming this is accurate (not all of their dates are - they give a 1961 date for a Shostakovich 2nd cello concerto recording, 5 years before that work was composed, I believe), was the work finished on that day, or was it composed between 1938 and 1945?
