Intro

Vivo Energy plc, commonly referred to as Vivo Energy, is a downstream petroleum company with its headquarters in London. It maintains subsidiaries and operations in 23 countries across Africa. Vivo Energy is a Shell and Engen licensee in multiple African markets. They source, distribute, market and supply high-quality fuels and lubricants to retail and commercial customers, in addition to providing a growing non-fuel retail offering. Vivo Energy completed its Initial Public Offering on the London Stock Exchange in May 2018, with a simultaneous inward secondary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. At the time, this was the largest African IPO for 10 years. Vivo Energy is listed on the London Stock Exchange and Johannesburg Stock Exchange and are members of the FTSE 250 Index and the JSE All Share Index.

History

Vivo Energy was established in 2011,[2] as a partnership between Vitol Group, a Swiss-based Dutch-owned multinational energy and commodity trading company, and Helios Investment Partners, a United Kingdom-based private equity firm, with the objective to purchase majority shares in the downstream fuels business of Royal Dutch Shell in Africa for approximately $1 billion.[3]


Cape Verde, Senegal, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Tunisia joined Vivo Energy in December 2011. They were followed by Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea in February 2012;[4] Botswana and Namibia in October 2012;[5] Kenya in November 2012;[6] Uganda in February 2013,[7] and Ghana in August 2013[8].

Vivo Energy had its initial public offering in May 2018[10] that saw its shares listed on the London Stock Exchange with a secondary listing on the JSE.[11] This IPO was the largest in the LSE in 2018 and saw the founding shareholders, Vitol and Helios, raise GBP 548 million.[12]

In March 2019, Vivo Energy completed a transaction with Engen Holdings, adding eight new countries and 230 Engen-branded service stations to its network. The new markets for Vivo Energy were Gabon, Malawi, Mozambique, Reunion, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Operations

Vivo Energy is a market-leading, pan-African retailer and distributor of high-quality fuels and lubricants to retail and commercial customers across the continent, with a growing non-fuel retail offering. They operate an integrated business across three core segments: Retail, Commercial and Lubricants.

At the end of 2019, their network comprised 2,226 service stations across the continent – making it the second largest retailer in Africa, outside South Africa, in terms of site numbers.

The Retail business comprises both the sale of petrol and diesel fuels at Shell and Engen-branded service stations, across 23 countries, and a growing non-fuel Retail business including multi-branded convenience retail shops, quick service and fast casual restaurants, and other services including lubricant bays, car washes and ATMs.

Their Commercial offer includes mining, construction, transport, aviation, marine, power and industrial companies. They also supply LPG, primarily to consumers, as well as fuels to the wholesale market.

Vivo Energy also provide Retail Lubricants products to consumers at their service station forecourts and lubricant bays and also at oil shops, repair shops, service centres and resellers through a network of distributors. Their Commercial Lubricants business supplies specialist lubricants to mining companies and B2B customers, and also exports to other African markets.

Safety is an absolute priority for Vivo Energy. Its HSSE performance is benchmarked against the downstream activities of its oil and gas industry peers, and it consistently scores ahead of companies operating both within and outside Africa.

I'm adding this all here as I think it's against editing guidelines for me to makes these changes as Vivo is a client of the company I work for - however some of the information definitely needs to change, e.g. the first sentence claiming their headquarters is in the Netherlands.

Would it also be appropriate to expand the operations section with more information on their operations in Retail, Commercial and Lubricant segments? For example "They operate in mining, construction, transport, aviation, marine, power and other industrial companies. Hi - Now largely updated. I don't think it would be appropriate to include more information on markets. It seems to me that it would conflict with WP:NOTADVERTISING. Hi - Thanks for the advice so far, I think there are a few more changes that need to be made to improve the page:

- The info paragraph lists Vivo being an "Energen" licensee, this is incorrect, the correct company is "Engen" which should link to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engen_Petroleum

- The operations section details the 2019 deal with Engen, however this would likely make more sense as an additional paragraph in the history section. Currently the operations section unnecessarily repeats the information on the list of countries that Vivo operates in - removing the first paragraph and adding in this short paragraph at the end of the history section would display this same information in a more concise and clear manner -

If this source isn't acceptable, the annual report from 2019 https://investors.vivoenergy.com/~/media/Files/V/Vivo-Energy-IR/reports-and-presentations/Vivo_Energy_12-03-2020.pdf has the figure of over 2,200 rather than over 2000. This source also has up to date figures for the Lubricants of 158,000 metric tonnes blending capacity at plants in six countries, rather than 170,000 in seven countries as currently listed. Suggested copy for the operations section is - " As of October 2020, the company operates over 2,250 service stations across its markets. Shell and Vivo Lubricants, a 50:50 joint venture between Vivo Energy and Shell, has blending capacity of around 158,000 metric tonnes at plants in six countries producing Shell branded lubricants. " - with the number of service stations listed depending on whether the company presentation is an acceptable source.

- Final point, I noticed that this source is inaccessible http://www.theghanaauto.com/index.php/2014-09-30-13-50-54/local-news/699-motorbike-fuel-pumps-to-offer-comfort-for-riders, if it is inaccessible for others should it be removed?

Inaccurate information[edit]

I Have tried to make this clear in every interaction with this page, I am an employee of a digital agency for whom Vivo is a client

1) History section: It is incorrect to state that “Vivo Energy is a franchisee for both Shell and Engen Petroleum in Mozambique”. Vivo Energy is not a franchisee, they are a licensee of either Shell or Engen depending on the market being referred to. Vivo Energy is not a licensee of both Shell and Engen in the same market, it is just Engen in Mozambique.

Vivo Energy were previously had operating units in 15 markets (not Mozambique). The new 8 markets that joined in March 2019 took up to 23 markets. I think that it is clearer to simply replace the final paragraph of the history section as follows, citing this reference from the Herald in Zimbabwe: https://www.herald.co.zw/vivo-energy-completes-engen-deal/ “In March 2019, Vivo Energy completed a transaction with Engen Holdings, adding eight new countries and 230 Engen-branded service stations to its network. Hi - I have made the a few further corrections. The objection is to you directing how the article should be written. I have removed some of the material from operations section for now: it was not misleading - it was just out of date. Other editors may want to take a look at this and add some alternative material from independent sources (not from the company's annual report). Best wishes.
