Let's revisit "Volcanic lake" - "Volcanogenic lake" renaming[edit]

This article was renamed from "volcanic lake" to "volcanogenic lake" with the edit comment "more correct name". The two sources use each name. It could possibly go either way with the lead paragraph listing the other name as an alternative, as it does now. But this leaves the associated categories Category:Volcanogenic lakes and subcategory Category:Volcanic lakes needing to be merged per WP:SMALL, and I think Volcanic lakes as the far more common usage makes more sense for the category. Then that tips the scale for the article title as the category's main article. I don't want to step on User:Volcanoguy's feet - so let me put this here for discussion first. (This came up when examining Category:Crater lakes for possible proposed renaming to "Volcanic crater lakes" per User:Ikluft/essay/Categorization of craters, and leaving the "Crater lakes" category as a disambiguation, when its parent categories called attention to themselves as merge-worthy.) I tried to copyedit the lead, but I don't understand the sentence The term volcanic lake is also used to describe volcanogenic lakes, although it is more commonly assigned to those which host a vent – what does it mean "host a vent"? No such user (talk) 13:10, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Clarified. Volcanoguy 14:07, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Ikluft: The problem is that various sources use "volcanic lake" and "volcanogenic lake" in different ways. Some use "volcanic lake" only for lakes inside volcanic craters while others use it to mean any lake formed as a result of volcanic activity. If you think "volcanic lake" would be a better title then so be it. Also your merge of content from volcanic crater lake was not necessary because now there is an WP:UNDUE problem in this article. • I think the broader definition of any lake formed from volcanic activity fits better to cover the whole topic, and as the main article for the categories to be merged. I added two refs to the lead section, one each of the broad and narrow definitions. There's no doubt both definitions are in use. Ikluft (talk) 21:11, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • (Separate thread for second topic above.) The content needed to be moved from crater lake to split it up for the ambiguity of the topic there, as people had been suggesting for nearly a decade. If I understand your concern about WP:UNDUE correctly, we'll need to balance the coverage of lava lakes and volcanic-dammed lakes up to lists as well. Yeah, you're right - that did become unbalanced and needs work. If I didn't understand correctly, please clarify to help me understand. Ikluft (talk) 21:11, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Or, an additional option comes to mind for the unbalanced weight of the merged list... I created a redirect volcanic crater lake pointing to the corresponding subsection here. It could become the article for that list. Ikluft (talk) 22:12, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, with some time to think, that was the best idea and puts some symmetry of the article structure of volcanic crater lake next to impact crater lake. Sorry about the mess here - it's mostly restored now with some improvements. Ikluft (talk) 02:30, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Ikluft: You understood my concern correctly. After thinking about the article title some more I think "Volcanic lake" would be the better choice. The different uses of the term could just be explained in the article. Volcanoguy 14:00, 23 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
