Passat[edit]

According to this news report, the NMS will be named the Passat. Should this article remain separate from the main Volkswagen Passat page, or merged with it? - BilCat (talk) 03:46, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article name[edit]

Passats have been sold in NA for years, but this article only covers the 2011 NMS Passat. I suggest "Volkswagen Passat (NMS)" or something else more specific to this particular generation of Passat would be a more appropriate title. Letdorf (talk) 22:45, 10 January 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Per the WP Automobile comventions page, this appears to be the best title. A hatnote should take care of your concern. But if you gain a consensus to move it again, then that's fine too. Btw, it's actually the 2012 model. - BilCat (talk) 00:26, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
On further thought, given that the NMS is intended for China also, Volkswagen Passat NMS is probably a better title for now. I'll move it later today if thater are no other objections, or someone else can move it if they want to also. - BilCat (talk) 19:21, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest parentheses around "NMS" (as per my previous proposal) for consistency with the other "Volkswagen Passat (Bx)" articles. Regards, Letdorf (talk) 19:31, 14 January 2011 (UTC).[reply]
Oops! No problem, but it'll probably have to be move by an admin. - BilCat (talk) 19:42, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think that this article should be renamed "Volkswagen Passat (USA)" and then we can add an "also called" section in the infobox, as the car will likely have a different name for China. --VMIKEW (talk) 14:06, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Passat NMS will also be sold in Canada. North America != USA. --Vossanova o< 16:41, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, sorry. Then why not name the article "Volkswagen Passat (North America)"? --VMIKEW (talk) 13:39, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article was at Volkswagen Passat (North America) when Letdorff opposed the name at the top of this section. I'd just leave it at Volkswagen Passat NMS until the China market name is known, and then we can rename it to include both names in the title. - BilCat (talk) 19:41, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Exports[edit]

Someone should elaborate on the exports from the Chattanooga plant of NMS to the Middle East and South Korea.VWphaetonfan (talk) 01:46, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming article[edit]

I think this article should be renamed as the car has become more established in the world and in VW's hierarchy since 2011. I think the NMS part should be dropped because it seems like a placeholder and dates from 2011. My 2 cents! Jay (talk) 02:07, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Renamed to what? Volkswagen Passat already exists, and they aren't the same car. - BilCat (talk) 02:52, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not a second generation[edit]

The 2019 NMS was a reskinning -- as stated in the article. It's not another generation. It's a facelift. 842U (talk) 21:53, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Volkswagen Passat (China)[edit]

The Chinese-made Volkswagen Passat will be launched in the Middle East. Derwydd74 (talk) 02:47, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
