Terminology[edit]

Are there reliable sources that spell out a divide between emetics and vomiting agents? From the nature of the two words composing the phrase "vomiting agent", I wouldn't understand the usage of the term to be restricted to substances used as weapons. And I find that ipecac, for example, is commonly described as a vomiting agent. Largoplazo (talk) 19:04, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Where have you seen Ipecac called a "vomiting agent?" surface level search sees ipecac referred to as an "emetic agent" or just an "agent," but never a "vomiting agent." the best I can find for definition is Farlex's free dictionary, but it also alleges that vomiting agents are exclusively for riot-control. More reliable but less direct are some of the descriptions here, especially those from the encyclopedia of toxicology (I don't have access so I can't link or cite.) It seems to me that the distinction came out of common usage, and since the two words are from different domains, there doesn't tend to be any problems of misunderstanding.65.49.139.21 (talk) 19:31, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
