Issues with Ownership[edit]

This article contains information that "Omni Broadcasting" owns 1480 WTKD, but the sale never fully went through. A sale did however, go through this year (see, for example http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/131572/lma-converts-to-sale-in-salt-lake-city-mom-sells-f and the appropriate fcc pages) indicating that a sale to "ETERNITY RECORD COMPANY LLC" has been completed Mviron (talk) 16:42, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV[edit]

I appreciate that someone took the time to write this article, but it shouldn't look like it was written by a loyal employee. I have fixed several NPOV issues, eliminating phrases like "premier Gulf Coast radio station" and boasts about signal strength. Most Mobile stations can be heard in New Orleans on a good day, so it isn't relevant. An info box and logo would help this article. The WBLX-FM article is a better and more neutral example of a Mobile radio article. Goeverywhere 02:09, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bernie Dittman Needs an Article[edit]

The man was a true original -- a great broadcaster and a fierce competitor. He loved his stations and the people who worked for him. Some people said he was difficult to work for (I believe it; he took his stations personally, and that's a lot to live up to). Those same people also thought very highly of him. Bernie's name was always said with a certain reverence -- even among his competitors, even when people questioned him. Even if we didn't know him personally, we felt like we knew him and simply called him Bernie -- yes, his name means that much in the Mobile media community. Despite the name-dropping, everyone knew who we meant. He kept old radio stunts alive well past their prime, yet they worked on his station. I met Bernie only once, and he showed himself to be a person of great class and a true radio professional. Somebody needs to do an article... he has earned one. I support this proposal. In a day and age where many private individuals and small companies were selling out to large corporations such as Clear Channel, CBS Radio, Entercom, and Cumulus Media, Mr. Dittman refused to do so and held the WABB/WABB-FM combo until the day that he passed away. If enough information can be found that an article on him can meet Wikipedia standars for POV, then I'm all for him having his own entry in the encyclopedia. --InDeBiz1 (talk) 04:26, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup and General issues[edit]

I should have read the talk page first - I assumed this was the first attempt to cleanup the page. By breaking the paragraph into sections, perhaps the original author (or someone more familiar with the history) can either document the assertions or remove the facts that cannot be supported by secondary sources. "I was there and I know it happened that way" is not acceptable sourcing for Wikipedia's content. Also, much of the article has notability issues - who really cares what the first song played on the FM station was other than the person who played it? This is an encyclopedia, not a fansite.StreamingRadioGuide 17:20, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In regard to your question about "who cares what the first song was...," I can tell you that a lot of so-called "radio geeks" care. You might be surprised how many folks are out there, like myself, that find trivia like that about notable radio stations (and I think, given its history as a standalone, private AM/FM combo, that WABB-A/F qualifies as "notable") to be highly entertaining and a common topic of discussion.

which was exactly the point... Wikipedia is a general interest encyclopedia, not a fan site for radio geeks. "Trivia" is specifcially one of the things to *not* be included in Wikipedia's content.

Split[edit]

Thanks to the editor for the long-overdue split of these articles. I've moved the relevant contents of the old Talk:WABB page here for archival purposes. -Dravecky (talk) 01:10, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
