CORRECTION ON HISTORY[edit]

The predecessor of WLIF started in 1957 as WAQE AM-1570. In 1959 WAQE-FM (101.9 MHz) came on the air. The two stations simulcast (broadcast the same thing on AM and FM) until 1969, changing call signs to WTOW AM & FM for a few years in the mid-1960's. The station's format has always been "beautiful music/easy listening."

At the end of the 60's the stations went out of business and were "dark" (off the air) for nearly a year. In early 1970 Woodrow Sudbrink, a Fort Lauderdale broadcaster bought the two stations and started WLIF-FM and WTOW-AM. WLIF-FM was beautiful music and the WTOW-AM was a commercal religious station. Now, WLIF is known as "Lite FM" and the AM station was sold and now runs a sports talk format.

The reference to AM-1300 was incorrect. WLIF was never on AM at 1300. AM-1300 was WFBR which was Baltimore's first radio station. The Call letters stand for "First Baltimore Regiment" which was where the studio was located. The company that owned WLIF at the time bought WFBR and operated the two stations jointly for a very short time, then separated them and re-broadcast a Washington, DC FM station WJFK, which was talk formatted.
