25.9 Audio Only Subchannel[edit]

25.9 is an audio only subchannel that broadcast the Cleveland Sight Center Service. Before removing it again from the list, keep in mind that not all digital TV sets and DTV converter boxes are able to decode an audio only channel, so you will hear nothing or get a no signal message. The Zenith and Insignia DTV boxes are able to decode audio only channels. Mathwiz593 (talk) 14:30, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translator locations[edit]

I just saw on a station ID on WVIZ on a recording from a month or so ago that W63CT was listed as being in Thompson and W64AK was listed as Ashtabula. I used the FCC links at the bottom of the article to get the coordinates to compare; W64AK ended up being in Thompson but W63CT is south of Kingsville. However, neither of the two correspond to the city names listed in the records, and therefore the article, so I will update. (I assume that there's no WP project that identifies a priority in this situation.) Mapsax (talk) 23:41, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, Sammi Brie knows my drill, but for Nathan Obral, the following will be suggestions on grammar and sentence structure from my first skim through for the editors-at-large. If you do think that these are not appropriate for the text or are not proper, please disregard them:

Prose[edit]

Lead[edit]

  • For most of its first three decades of service, under general manager Betty Cope, the station intensively focused on the production and broadcast of educational television programming for schools might read better as For most of its first three decades of service, under general manager Betty Cope, the station intensively focused on producing and broadcasting educational television programming for schools.

History[edit]

From educational radio to educational television

  • Cleveland had been regarded as a forerunner in educational broadcasting ... may need clarity as to who regarded Cleveland as a forerunner in educational broadcasting.
    • I think the content here justifies this not being a "by whom" kind of case.

Taking to the air

  • In-studio auctions would be hosted by the station ... might read better as The station would host in-studio auctions ...
  • ... generating $52,000 over a three-day period "a three-day period" to just "three days"?

Committed to the schools

  • Cope's preference towards local productions were modeled ... "were" to "was"?
  • In 1987, WVIZ created EDISON, a database of subjects for its 2,400 educational programs; the format was adopted by other broadcasters including ... Comma before "including"?

An underdeveloped, untapped resource

  • ... Goulden was responsible for the creation of a number of programs ... "a number of" to "several"?

Evolving the station after Cope

  • Wareham began a five-year program with the goal of bringing WVIZ ... "with the goal of bringing" to just "to bring"?
    • Disagree here because this was a stated goal.
  • Same sentence, comma before "including"?

Formation of Ideastream

  • WVIZ began broadcasting on digital on channel 26; the station ceased analog broadcasting on June 12, 2009, electing to continue in digital on channel 26. I read this twice. Is it "on digital" or "in digital" or can these two have interchangeable prepositions?
    • Should be "in" in both uses.

References[edit]

  • 6, it may be redundant to have the "via" parameter where the link precedes it: EBSCOhost 14610646 – via EBSCOhost.
    • Removed.
  • 16, page for the passage?
    • The way history cards are read makes page numbers not the greatest idea. It is on PDF page 12 (note the Dated column).
  • 24, as with ref. 6, same with ProQuest here.
  • 39, title MOS:TMRULES.
  • 112, "WCLV.com" to "WCLV"?

@Adog: I handled everything that was mentioned here. Two items I objected to changing. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 04:54, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sammi Brie: Awesome, I will do the read-through in the morning. Stay awesome until then (and afterwards)! Adog (TalkCont) 05:26, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Additional comments or concerns[edit]

  • MOS:DUPLINK, "WBOE" original in subsection "From educational radio to educational television". "WEWS-TV" in "Taking to the air", original in "From educational radio to educational television". "KCTS-TV" in "Evolving the station after Cope", original in "Committed to the schools".

For the first skim-through, awesome! I will complete the full read-through either tonight or tomorrow morning for me (EST). :) Adog (TalkCont) 00:54, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Sammi Brie and Nathan Obral: Honestly, not much to say more in terms of prose. The only thing I could think of reading was in subsection "An underdeveloped, untapped resource". I do enjoy the phrase: ... flirted with bankruptcy ..., but that may not be an accessible phrase to some readers. Maybe change to simply: ... came close to experiencing financial collapse ... or ... came close to bankruptcy ...? Also for sources like 12, I do see they link to Geneology. Some sources have the "via" parameter for it, some do not. If it should be consistent then those without should have the parameter, right?
  • Something I really like about the last two articles on TV stations is these maps to show the broadcast area. That is both informative and cool! I do have to shuttle to work, but I will type up the pass when I get back unless I note anything else. Everything was great! Adog (TalkCont) 13:20, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Responded to the two cleanup items you gave. And yes, maps are helpful. Only recently have I figured out the JSON side and Nathan has helped me get the formatting I've wanted. Not every article needs a map, but some of our more complicated ones really do. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 16:54, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Adog (ping) Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 16:57, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Sammi Brie: Just two minor issues I saw at work, but I will pass the article since these are minor:
  • Broadcast journalist Hugh Danaceau hosted a series of weekly public affairs shows over WVIZ in addition to anchoring the city council telecasts and local election coverage.[64][41] (Refs switched around)
  • In August 2004,[124] Odd place to add a reference, maybe after semi-colon?

Well written + verifiability[edit]

The article is well written with only a few minor grammatical or sentence structure suggestions that were addressed above. The article follows a general manual style guide. The reference layout is in good shape, cites reliable sources. No problems with original research, all spot checks were good (my workplace has access to NewsBank and some locked articles, so I will keep that in the back of my mind). No copyright issues from Earwig nor are there issues with plagiarism or close paraphrasing. Adog (TalkCont) 20:32, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Broadness + focus + neutral[edit]

The article is broad in scope, and also focuses well the on the subjects. It was an interesting read, with a lot of disputes and resolutions. The article fairly portrays its subjects in a neutral manner. No problems! Adog (TalkCont) 20:32, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Images + stability[edit]

The article's images are relevant to the content and the paperwork for each seems proper. The article is stable, as there are no ongoing or active edit conflicts. Adog (TalkCont) 00:54, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
