Meaning of title?

What's the name "Waka waka" mean? There's a suggestion from one of the review quotes that's it's from an "old Cameroonian tune", is that true? 207.58.192.150 (talk) 14:57, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

I haven't looked into it fully, but it the words are contained in the lyrics and the first reference mentions that it came from an African source. ----moreno oso (talk) 19:38, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

I am looking too... the only thing I see is that it was taken from the song by Trafassi "Waka Waka" (who's chorus is almost word for word used in Shakira's version). I am wondering if it has no more meaning than when Fozzie Bear chose it for his catch phrase... Waka waka means Do it - as in perform a task. Waka is pidgin language meaning walk while working. The original song (more African sounding) was by "Golden Sounds" before it was redone by "Trafassi" (more Latin sounding), most likely the version Shakira heard first. Original Song not referenced?

It appears this was taken from an existing song. A copy of which is available at http://www.zoopy.com/video/4cp7/waka-waka-the-original-version-of-world-cup-son Does anyone have more information on who the original artist is, and what agreement (if any) Shakira struck with them? ----singelet 13 June 2010

It seems the original artist was a Cameroonian band called Zangalewa. It also appears there was some controvesy over royalty and a deal was struck after Shakira produced the song. I'm going to update the main page but make it clear there is still some research required. But: what's with all the emphasis on the clothing? This is supposed to be an article about a song, but now we've got images of design drawings of two outfits of the singer at performances of the song. I think that's stretching the connecting thread a little far. Plagarism Section

Last year(2010) there was a section about the chorus and title of this song being a direct copy of the traditional African soldiers' song named Zamina mina (Zangalewa), a 1980s makossa hit for Cameroonian group Golden Sounds, without their permission. Not sure why it has been taken out. I am returning it. I think too Shakira heard Waka Waka from this 1980s Dominican Republic merengue group Chicas del Can (version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtDBiuO_5_4). Using sources to blogs to argue that it was copied even if there is an earlier version that you link to. That is what they call OR and it's not allowed. I have to take it out. Chart vandalism

Hello! I discovered a lot of the entries in the Weekly Charts section were wrong, which I attributed to vandalism. In order to remedy this, I went back to the last edit where the charts remained unblemished and copied all the information from that edit into the Weekly Charts section. I'm not sure if there were any more charts added since then, so that's why I'm letting my fellow Wikipedians know on this talk page. Sorry, it's my first time proposing something on wikipedia, and I wonder how, when and if, someone is going to read this^^

Also, I wonder if I should have written some sort of presentation of who I am somewhere first...

Anyway, I was thinking that this article should at least mention the zamina mina camerooneese hit from the 80s.

Because this page is probably visited a lot more than this one .

And that also means correcting the "Written, composed, and produced by" part almost everywhere in the article...

Since this article is important for a lot projects, I don't think I should be the one editing it as the first I do upon arrival... I'd rather change something in an pbscure never riidden article for my first try. :p
