Nobody delete this page please. We have to rename the article to Walt Disney Classics, because Black Diamond series is a fan created name.
I also have a lot of the releases and seen a lot of them. Remember, the release dates on this page are the American NTSC, please do not include UK release dates or any other country. This page goes to US and Canada releases.
This should probably be merged with the Walt Disney Home Entertainment page.
- We can't, User Tregoweth doesn't want that on that page, he wants it to be about the company, not about the separate video lines, and no this should not be deleted. He really wants to follow Wikipedia's rules I guess, I mean come on, Wikipedia is just a website, not a human life form that's gonna punish him.
Who is in 1988-1994 classics logo
Sorcerer Mickey was in 1988-1994 classics logo.
Mickey also appears in the WDHV logo from 1987-1998.

I have to ask though, the tapes made from 1992-1993 had a Sorcerer Mickey next to WDHV logo, sometimes not. Also, doesn't your Alice tape have the BD on the top of the videotape label and the stock number was 36V instead of 036? What Black Diamond editions do you plan on getting?
- My Alice video has "036" and has the diamond logo in the center of the label. Plus, when Disney started doing the white-ink labels in 1990, they had a white diamond with "THE CLASSICS Walt Disney Home Video" on most releases (the general-release ones like "Dumbo" and "Alice"'s new prints of the time had the white diamond reading "Disney's CLASSICS." Starting in 1992 with "101 Dalmatians" it just simply had "Walt Disney Home Video" for the logo on the labels; no Mickey or Diamond on the label. "The Great Mouse Detective" had NO WDHV on the tape label OR the spine of the clamshell! The last Disney Classic video, "The Fox and the Hound," had the white diamond on it with the Classics text.
- Great Mouse Detective has a WDHV on the videotape on some versions, I saw this being sold on eBay.

- It's probably the 1991 reissue that uses the original 1986 tape master. I have that version
- It's 1986, I figured it out because there is a shiny sticker on the back of mine with a film camera on it, this is also on the back of Dumbo (1984), Bambi (1989), and Cinderella (1988).

Where Else is the Prototype Classics Logo?
The prototype Sorcerer Mickey Classics logo is on my 1988 Cinderella print and the 2nd version of the Robin Hood print, where else is it?
Also, I saw a video clip of the prototype logo on YouTube.com, which was originally owned by user Wilee2005, but somebody took and and uploaded it to YouTube, the logo seems to be a little bit offscreen.
Also, there are 2 versions of the Robin Hood video-
One with the prototype Classics logo and the green FBI warnings.
The other one shows the red ones, 2 previews, and the regular classics logo, but it somewhat cut-short. 1
Herbie Rides Again 1990 VHS have Red FBI Warnings, a trailer for Rescuers Down Under/Prince and the Pauper, and 1988 prototype Sorcerer Mickey classics logo.
Walt Disney Classics with "Sorcerer Mickey" in 1988 prototype version
1. Cinderella 1988 VHS: FBI Warning are on a red/white background and Licensed for Private Home is on a red background, then the first preview of "Oliver & Company," and the first "Sorcerer Mickey" classics logo in prototype version.
2. 2nd version of Robin Hood 1991 VHS: FBI Warning and Licensed for Private Home are both on a green background, then no previews, and "Walt Disney Classics" logo with Sorcerer Mickey in 1988 prototype version.

- Sometimes there are different versions of logos made. There was Disney's "Neon Mickey," which had two versions. There was one with larger, brighter Mickey graphics and "Walt Disney Home Entertainment" and then a second version with a smaller neon Mickey and "WALT DISNEY HOME VIDEO." (I believe the second version was introduced when they began doing the print logo with the "HOME VIDEO" in Handel-Gothic with "WALT" above "DISNEY.") With the prototype Classics logo, the music and basic animation is exactly the same as the 1989 version, the only difference is the color and quality of the logo.
- Which classics logo do you like the best? because there was another variant in 1992 where the logo had more blue in it and the background music was muffled. Also, the 2nd version of the Neon Mickey was introduced on some tapes with Walt above Disney (1984 releases like The Gnome-Mobile and Follow Me, Boys) and the tapes with the very small Sorcerer Mickey on the box.
- The more-blueish one was introduced on 101 Dalmatians and the music sounded normal; same with The Great Mouse Detective. Starting with The Rescuers, the music was distorted a bit.
- I forgot to mention that, you're right, The Rescuers is the first one to have the muffled music and so on to 1994.

- Maybe I can help. I could screencap the 1984 logo from my "Lady and the Tramp" video. My "Lady" and "Alice in Wonderland" releases also have the Diamond logo on the back of the cover; they're the only old releases I have.
- I'm curious to know what videos are inside the 1989 Disney video brochure, probably Bambi and some of the Sing-Along series, what else though?

3 versions of The Rescuers Down Under
1. First version: FBI Warning are on a red/white background and Licensed for Private Home are on a red/orange background, then Walt Disney Home Video logo 1986 with Sorcerer Mickey, then One preview of The Jungle Book, then "FEATURE PRESENTATION" bumper, and 1988 regular Classics logo with Sorcerer Mickey.
2. Second version: FBI Warning and Licensed for Private Home are both on a green background, then no previews, and 1988 regular Classics logo with Sorcerer Mickey.
3. 1992 version: Green FBI Warning and Green Licensed for Private Home Screen, then 1986 Walt Disney Home Video logo with Fantasia Mickey, 2 previews: The Jungle Book and Robin Hood, then 1992 Feature Presentation screen (white handwriting cursive font with a lilac blue background), and 1988 regular Classics logo with Fantasia Mickey.
Peter Pan
Hey, I noticed that Disney's Peter Pan Classic edition seems to have the most label variations. Here are what I can list...
VHS EDITIONS
- Label is white ink on the tape: vertical, with white diamond on top, film title in center and tape info on bottom.
- Label is white ink on the tape: horizontal, the title is on the left and the white diamond is on the right. The tape info is on the bottom.
- Label is white ink on the tape: horizontal, the title is in the center and the white diamond is on the left. The tape info is on the bottom.
BETA EDITIONS
- Label is large old-style white square-shaped label: the black diamond is on the top, the film's title is in the center in yellow, the tape info is on the bottom.
Interesting, huh?
- I noticed that for some reason, I was looking at Beta tapes on eBay, and I saw all these versions.
Sleeping Beauty is Also 1989?
According to the page, it says Sleeping Beauty was released in 1986 and 1989, is this true, please cite a source for this claim, because it was only released in 1986.
- The Ebay people think it was released in 1989 rather than 1986.
- Why would they already submit that info if they dont know?
- This video has an unusual FBI warning.
Poor Quality on LADY AND THE TRAMP
For some reason, my 1987 Lady and the Tramp print has some outdated things on it. First off, on the Bella Note after-spaghetti scene, there is no background music, just the lyrics.
And second, on the alley dog chase scene, just when the dogs get ready to fight, you see only one, but the 1998 print shows 3.
Does that occur on your prints?
- My print has full, complete audio and more. The Classic version relied on the "Academy" pan-and-scan print. Plus, on that print you can hear Aunt Sarah singing "Rock-a-Bye Baby" at one part. She doesn't on the 1998 print due to an audio-mixing goof-up
- That is odd, I guess my version is outdated, I borrowed it from someone who probably played it over and over, I don't when the person got it, the diamond is on the top of the label.
- My print has the diamond in the center of the label. On that version of the label, "THE CLASSICS" text is normal size. The one on the top of the other version of the label has smaller "THE CLASSICS" text on the diamond.
- I played this print on my 60-inch bigscreen TV and does what it did on my other TV. I also found out that you submitted logos to YouTube.com on the Retro Logos playlist, I visit that sight a lot.

European Release Dates
Someone on this page is blending the US releases with the UK releases. I have created a section for that user to put the European ones. Whoever it is, the section is a work-in-progress waiting to be finished.
Also, I will set up a list for Japanese releases.

The Walt Disney Classics "Scroll."
Hey, I noticed that in 1997 the PAL Disney videotapes got a new print logo for their Classic series. It said "WALT DISNEY" on top and then a gold scroll under it with "CLASSICS" in it. Did that print logo ever get used as an animated opening? If so, what was it like?
Is "CLASSICS" in the same fancy font that was used in the 1988-1994 logo, as well as in the print logo? Gabrielkat 14:35, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Disney Classic Box Sets
Hey, I remember seeing a couple of auctions online on eBay for two Disney VHS box sets. One had "The Jungle Book," "Robin Hood" (1991 edition) and "The Rescuers Down Under." I'm sure it came out in 1991. One side of the box had an illustration of Robin Hood, another side with a Jungle Book scene, and another illustration with the cast of "The Rescuers Down Under." The packaging had a large "THE CLASSICS" diamond (without WDHV text) above most of the illustrations and on the top of the box. Another box set was released, maybe around the same time. Except for this one, only one Black Diamond Classic video was in the set, "Dumbo" (with the 1991 cover artwork.) It also included two non-Classics videos; "Mary Poppins" (the 1987-1988 edition) and "Pete's Dragon." I'm not sure which tape edition of "Dumbo" it was. It could have been the 1984 copy or the newer 1991 tape. "Mary Poppins" also had two editions, despite the same cover artwork. One had a large, white "Walt Disney Home Video" label and had the 1986 Sorcerer Mickey WDHV logo at the beginning. The other had white ink on the tape and had the early 90s gold WDHV still logo. Nonetheless, the box set had "THE CLASSICS" diamond on one side and on the top.
Interesting, huh?

Comment on PAL Versions
I now that a user known as Gabrielkat is saying the Classics Sorcerer Mickey was 1987, it wasn't, the VHS edition of Lady and the Tramp in Europe was 1988. Also, the WDHV Sorcerer Mickey is 1987, not 1986.

Site a source for this claim, the very first "Sing" cassette was 1986, but had the WDHV between the blue lines label, and it should have the 1982 logo. Link to the website that says this. User:Imax80

False Info
An anonymous user is contributing wrong info, and redundant information. The Sword in the Stone first came to video in America in 1986 because there is a trailer for The Natty Gan video release (1986) on it. Also, there was 1989 cover of Sleeping Beauty, that's a lie, and this user keeps vandalising the titles with "&" instead of "and." We have to stop this. User:Imax80

- I think the film was mastered for video in 1985, and the cover artwork and clamshells were made that same year, too. But then the release was postponed to 1986. --71.192.122.49 20:59, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- No, it's 1986, you're version is a later version, because Sword in the Stone was dropped from print in the late 1980s, the early version had the diamond on the top of the videotape label and the Natty Gan preview (my print), the other has the diamond under the Sword in the Stone logo and no previews at all (that's your version), Sword was 1986.

- WAIT A SECOND! The Sword in the Stone was in general release. According to what I heard, it stayed in print from 1986 to 1995/6, with different variations available. In 1988, they must have done a reprint, like Dumbo, with the previews edited out and just the FBI warnings, logo and film, and with that holographic sticker label on the back of the video case. Then in 1990, they changed the cover artwork, I heard from someone. Then in 1991 they began experimenting with a newer tape print of the film with the newer label and logo. --Wile e2005 14:01, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
