Heckuva tie in those Rolling Stone rankings![edit]

The Gov't Mule paragraph, as of Feb 13 2010, states "In 2003, he was ranked 23rd on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, along with fellow Allman Brothers Band guitarists Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, and Derek Trucks." This is of course imprecise, as I doubt they were all ranked 23rd. Surely this could be rephrased? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frankenab (talkcontribs) 02:08, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A Bit Misleading[edit]

The way the first paragraph is written can be misleading.

"vocalist and songwriter and long time member of The Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule"

I've reworded it as:

"vocalist and songwriter of Gov't Mule, and long time member of the Allman Brother's Band" —Preceding unsigned comment added by AznWarlord (talkcontribs) 01:34, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But he is a vocalist and songwriter with the allman brothers too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.101.167.140 (talk) 05:55, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Emule[edit]

Emule only says it because I POSTED THE WIKIPEDIA LINK TO EMULE TO LAUGH ABOUT HOW STUPID IT WAS! Its been changed away and changed back again a couple times now. The second wife thing is possible...but he's got no kids anyone I know is aware of, let alone a pregnant wife.

The encyclopedia entry should focus on the artist's achievements, skills, gifts, and chronology of performances and band affiliations. The focus on the personal life (wife, children, residence) does not seem to fit in with the purpose of the entry.

Main Bio[edit]

Yes, Stephanie Scamardo is Warren's wife and manager. Skullpipes 02:00 16 January —Preceding comment was added at 07:02, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've been listening to Jam On on Sirius for a while now, and it's recently been hinted at that Stef Scamardo (On-Air DJ for Jam On) is Haynes' wife and manager. Can anyone verify this?Theoctillion 16:50, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I edited the last sentence about Warren being an original member of Phil & Friends....well, because he wasn't. Then, while I was at it, I ran through the whole thing, and changed the wordings on a couple sentances and fixed an errant apostraphe or two as well. Plus, nobody knows if Warren's "Mule" is really 10" long. MSherrick 01:29, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

To the guy who wrote what appears immediately above (MSherrick, I'm talking to you):

I don't think I feel comfortable with you editing anything. I certainly don't want you changing "sentances" (sic) or fixing errant apostrophes (note my correct spelling). Before you start criticizing someone else's work, pick up a dictionary and at least make sure you haven't misspelled words that a second grader should be familiar with.

You're welcome to have that opinion, thats cool. Interesting though, I wonder who edited my posting to say the part about Warren's "Mule", since I didn't. I may have misspelled apostrophe, but (it's not you) at least I can spell Dickey, when it's in the article inumerable times.MSherrick 21:53, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What the hell is with this page? I couldn't find a reason for someone deleting the picture and there's a section called "Beloved Man Of Mystery"? What fucking mystery? Also it seems like constant references to white blues guitarists (along with a picture of him with a black blues guitarist being deleted). Warren was influenced by the white guys early on but later on became more influenced by Howlin Wolf when his brother gave him a tape of Eric Clapton with him (may have been a different blues artist) and then idolized Little Milton. ——The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.172.126.133 (talkcontribs) 14:54, July 24, 2006 (UTC)

The photo was undoubtedly deleted for copyright reasons. Images on Wikipedia must be licensed to match our somewhat unusual distribution requirements. I guarantee you there's no "don't show Haynes with black people" rule in effect. —Chowbok 15:37, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a laughable amount of space for someone who is knwon only to the jamband sub -culture. This whole article should be cut to a third. peakdetector

to peakdetector, Warren Haynes is an intersection of a plethora of artists and genres. I think you're laughable for not realizing that. Maybe you should be cut to a third. Fordskydog (talk) 18:22, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What isn't a sub-culture? Brittany Spears? This man is an accomplished recording artist and performer, singer, musician, song writer in his own right. Give him his space, but let's keep out the fanatical submissions. His role alone in the Dead and The Allman Brothers Band is enough to put him the mainstream. There could be a little more on his influence by Black artists, like Blind Willie McTell, since the name of the band referrences the US Goverment's broken promise to give each freed slave 40 acres and a mule, which is also part of the lyrics to his song "Mule". Give him his due, but don't be posting stuff while shrooming after a String Cheese show. WChinnock

While we're on the topic of spelling, I believe her name is Britney.

To Rdp2006 who removed any mentions of Mickey Hayes and his history with Warren Haynes. I have added them back, as Warren himself has stated in a interview that Hayes saw him perform and got him on with David Allen Coe. Also, Warren and Mickey started the Jam at 45 Cherry together. After a number of years, Warren moved to the Civic Center for larger seating and national artists to continue to perform with, while Mickey Hayes continues using local artists at The Orange Peel.

Also, using the Wikipedia page to show a exact date for another jam not affiliated with neither Haynes or Hayes comes across as advertising, not a real entry. Notice that both jams I have entered do not list dates or any other information other than historical, and are shows that are spun from the original 1989 Jam at 45 Cherry.

I have also added a link to a interview here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/document?doc_id=100127&src=3SOSWXXA , where Warren talks about how he joined Coe, where he mentions Hayes.

Also, if you do edit a page, please do more than just take what someone has entered and remove a name as a edit and enter your own gig/show and try to pass it off as part of this page. What I have added is there because it is actual fact. Do not remove because you personally have a problem with someone. SilentBob 00:19, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Musicians performed with[edit]

This entire section strikes me as entirely inappropriate for what is supposed to be an encyclopedia entry. Furthermore, every entry (except one, which I added) currently violates Wikipedia standards of Verifiability, making the section subject to arbitrary deletion by anyone who feels the urge. I am not going delete it right now, but I want to put the section on notice, and if anyone feels they can and must defend it, now is the time. This article needs a lot of cleanup, but this particular section seems to me to be the single worst element. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a fan site! (Note: many of the external links are also excessive and inappropriate for a Wikipedia article, but that's a topic for another day.) -- Xtifr 11:43, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To help promote debate, here is a Wikipedia article on Embedded lists, discussing what is and is not appropriate for lists in articles. This article may well help provide ammunition for both sides of this debate (assuming there really is more than one side), so anyone who strongly objects to the removal of this list should definitely read it. Comments and responses are very much welcomed, but unless there's some defense of this list in the next several days, I'll probably go ahead and remove the it. -- Xtifr 00:30, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it entirely inappropriate? It's part of his career history, esp since musical guests and collaborations are so much a part of his performing and ethic. Why does it bother you? What is your rationale for removing the information? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.121.86.217 (talkcontribs) 07:24, 9 October 2006 (UTC).[reply]

It's inappropriate because it's unsourced and trivia. If you want to illustrate his performing and "ethic", you should write about his performing and his ethic, possibly using some of these collaborations as examples. And it bothers me because I care about the quality of articles in Wikipedia. My rational(s) for removing it are the Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, in particular: WP:V, WP:OR and especially WP:NOT. Note that I have not (yet) deleted the list, but I have yet to hear any reasonable defense for it. Xtifr tälk 22:16, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I understand your point. As for unsourced, how about if we try to annotate the list by including date, place of performance, and details of the collaboration? As for trivia, I think this is subjective. Wanting to know if a musician has played or recorded with another musician is not trivia to some people; it is more detailed information!

I think artists performed with is (are?) valuable information, and are facts, and are the type of thing I would check Wikipedia for. Furthermore, Warren is the type of artist who's fans will be interested to know as much as they can about. Although arguably not mainstream, Warren has been around for over 10 years, has worked with MANY other artists and contributed greatly. It is nice that one can come to this article and use this one artist as a link to many others to broaden one's musical scope. Perhaps I'm getting off on a tangent about what it means to be mainstream and this isn't the place. Ultimately, an encyclopedic knowledge of Warren Haynes is and will be an appreciated and valuable thing for lots of music fans. Keep the artists performed with; let's find some sources to cite. 71.40.183.248 (talk) 18:02, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

other artists[edit]

I think we should list the artists he's performed with; if nothing else, than it would let people more effectively seek out his recordings. For one, I'd like to see mention of his collaborations with the Dave Matthews Band. I undestand DMB may not be the favorite of a blues purist, but Haynes' presence at the Central Park Concert alone is worth at least a short note.

Why The Neutrality Dispute[edit]

Can someone please put light on why the article has been cited as not having a neutral point of view? If there is no commentary, shall we remove the NPOV tag? -- ViaBest 15:57, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not necessarily not-neutral, but un-encyclopedic, redndant, and in need of clean-up.
