Expansion

The second definition of 'waymarking' could do with expansion by someone with experience of placing waymarks on a trail - there's clearly a certain skill to it (plus a lot of common sense I suspect) - I've been caught out by poorly waymarked paths on several occasions, a guide to what needs to be done would be good as sometimes I suspect it falls to someone inexperienced to 'just do it'.

waymarking games - not GPS

I've heard of people playing waymarking games by one person laying down tempoarary markers for others to follow. I've hesitated to include this here though as I can't find any references to this.

Waymarking in data structures

A new technique invented for space saving reasons in the LLVM that enables to use spare bits in sequence elements to store common information that normally would need its own field in the structure. Camera with integrated compass

I understand in recent years general consumer cameras are now including a feature of a compass to show (horizontal?)bearing of shot. Can anyone give details or just a timeline of this innovation? Could be useful identifying hills an mountains on a contour map.People could fabricate something similar.SignedJohnsonL623 (talk) 01:26, 13 July 2011 (UTC) So far I found one which has a GPS dongle feature avail. that has a 2-axis magnetic sensor to record(compass) bearing. Article focus and tone

The articles lede makes it seem like this is not an activity specific to Waymarking.com, but then it proceeds to talk about the business as if its the only site doing this. I havent researched this yet, but i do know this: either waymarking is a popular activity which this particular business is one incidence of, or its an activity ONLY associated with the business. either way, the article needs to be rewritten to show which is true.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:12, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

It was started by groundspeak and the name "Waymarking" is very specific to that company's business. There are certainly other similar POI collecting databases, however, and Waymarking would fit nicely in a chart next to them. Hardaker (talk) 14:12, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Should there be two articles?

There is a conflict here. There are waymarks, as in the marks the show a particular way, and there is waymarking the geocaching term. Should both meanings be contained within one article? I edited this article thinking that it was primarily about path signage but the article's history suggests that it should be mostly about geocaching. Maybe there should be two articles. Alternatively, this article could be about the geocaching term with just an reference to in the history section to the other meaning. --Bruce Hall (talk) 02:38, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Merge Waymarking with Trailblazing?

This article covers the same ground as trailblazing, which is the American equivalent. It therefore seems sensible to merge the two articles. Rwood128 (talk) 21:11, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

I suggested on the Talk page of Geocaching, 30 July 2014, that If there is a need for a separate article on the way marking type of geocaching, it could perhaps, be named Waymarking (geocaching) for the sake of clarity. Rwood128 (talk) 12:35, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Geocaching

An alternative meaning (not mentioned in the article) seems to be associated with <http//:www.waymarking.com>, and relates to GPS co-ordinates. There looks like there has been discussion of this in the past (above). Rwood128 (talk) 22:19, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

I now realize that the following sentence does refer to the form of way marking associated with geocaching (way mark.com):

Local governments have also adopted waymarking as a method of increasing awareness of local points of interest.
