Flag[edit]

what are the origins of this flag of Waziristan? I have never heard of it or seen it before. What

According to "Flags of the World" that flag belonged to a 1930's resistance movement there. So it's incorrect to say that it is "the flag of Waziristan". However I readded the flag with a correct explanation of its origin because I thought it was historically significant.Inkan1969 23:07, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Islamic Emirate of Waziristan?[edit]

Merge this article with Islamic Emirate of Waziristan? Inkan1969 22:36, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My thinking in forming two separate articles is that Waziristan is a cultural region while the Islamic Emirate of Waziristan is a political body. It's the same logic behind having separate articles for France and the French Fifth Republic, or India and the Government of India. The argument against this is that the Islamic Emirate of Waziristan is not yet important enough to merit its own article. My response to that is that anyone who can fight the Pakistan Army to a standstill — and extract such generous terms as we saw here — they deserve their own Wikipedia article. These guys are not micronation types. They are Islamic hillbillies of the worst sort and will likely be giving NATO a serious headache in the near future. Give 'em their own page I say. technopilgrim 00:36, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, my thinking was to delete the Waziristan entry and keep only the Islamic Emirate of Waziristan entry. IEW definitely deserves an entry as a breakaway state. I'll agree with you about keeping Waziristan as a cultural region entry. The problem is that the entry as it is doesn't seem to have information not already mentioned in the North Waziristan and South Waziristan entries. So as it is the Waziristan entry seems redundant. In light of recent events, I feel that having this as a separate article is helpful. With newscasters mentioning Waziristan frequently when reporting on the Pakistani truce with the tribal entities, we will likely see more people looking for this article. I know that's how I wound up here. On CNN yesterday, several different anchors mentioned Waziristan and had me thinking to myself "Oh great, another new country I never heard of before!" These areas used to just be referred to as Tribal lands on the border of Pakistan. If anything, I'd like to see this article beefed up a bit and puton the front page in the recent events area. I'm sure I'm not the only one who was trying to determine where Waziristan was after watching the news in the USA.Lisapollison 18:33, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It would be unwise to merge the two articles because Waziristan is the official name for this region and they are part of Pakistan. While Islamic Emirate of Waziristan is nothing but a pipedream of the Taliban.

Afghans[edit]

Do Afghans (Pashtuns or otherwise) make up the principal peoples of Waziristan? I saw a distribution map that said Waziristan spoke the Pashto language, and that their people were reputed as fierce, brave warriors, so I think they might be.

History section needed[edit]

This should include an explanation of the Islamic Emirate of Waziristan. -- Beland (talk) 18:26, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Map problems[edit]

One map seems to include non-Waziristan frontier regions in with Waziristan, and the other shows them separately. Is this boundary disputed, or is there an error? -- Beland (talk) 18:36, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The maps in this article are outdated, Pakistan has divided the land into more provinces . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.63.199.74 (talk) 12:43, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

waziristan[edit]

waziristan and other tribal belt area along the pakistan/afghanistan border is not - repeat not- federally administrated area of pakistan. this is an autonomous region of pushtoons.

Explanation The british tried in vain to control the region during their colonial rule of india! The british then concluded agreements with tribal chiefs who simply allowed them to build certain roads within their autonomous area for use duuring day time against reguler cash payments and other special benefits.Pakistan continued to honour the agreement made by the colonial rulers and extended further the benefits and other privileages.Pakistan army inroads by use of force would be viewed as a violation of the centuries old agreement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.49.42.211 (talk) 16:42, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting edits by Saeed khan masood and 113.203.235.179[edit]

I going to revert those edits, just like 50.72.215.179 did twice already. The edits are bad. Here are some reasons the edits are bad:

  1. Some of the grammar is bad. For example there's an image with the caption "tourist celebrated Eid al-Fitr". I think it should probably say "tourists celebrating".
  2. The formatting is bad. See the previous example, it should have a capital T in tourist.
  3. The Wiki formatting is bad. The very first line of the article is a mess of parentheses and square brackets. It reads: Waziristan (Pashto and Urdu: وزیرستان‎, "land of the(Mehsud)and[(Wazir)(Pashtun tribe)|Waziristan]]") is a mountainous region
  4. Saeed inserted an image of himself into the article with the text "BeautyCam" imposed on top of it. This is borderline vandalism.
  5. The majority of the text is plagiarized from the book The British Colonial Experience In Waziristan And Its Applicability To Current Operations by Matthew Williams. For example the text "This chapter examines the geographic, administration, meteorological and sociological factors as well as the tribes, transportation network, and populace of this area." can be seen here.

Orphaned references in Waziristan[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Waziristan's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
