Article name[edit]
I confess to be not happy with this article name: This is the day which the Lord hath made or Anthem for Wedding of Princess Anne (and other similar ones). It is not the name of the work, which has two names, combined by "or". This gets lost in the title typography. I suggest to use one, for example This is the day which the Lord hath made (Handel), have the other as a redirect, and have the full name with the correct typography in the article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:25, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
- I have just been making the titles of these kinds articles the same as whatever was in the chart List of compositions by George Frideric Handel so the article would link to it. "This is the day which the Lord hath made" (Handel) sounds too much like a hymn to me. How about This is the day which the Lord hath made (Anthem for Wedding of Princess Anne)? Then I have to figure out how to do all those things you suggest, make redirect pages and move article names, fix links to other articles, I don't really know how to do that stuff to be honest and don't enjoy that kind of thing very much. Yes there are a few similar ones I created the same way

- I did not create this one, but expanded it, I was using the title of the article as a sort of guide - The Ways of Zion Do Mourn / Funeral Anthem for Queen Caroline. "The Ways of Zion Do Mourn (Handel)" would sound too much like something from a hymn book to me and these pieces are actually usually referred to as "Wedding anthem for Frederick Prince of Wales" or "Funeral anthem for Queen Caroline" etc rather than the opening words of their texts.Smeat75 (talk) 12:41, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
- I am not too familiar with such double titles myself, but know that we say Mass in B minor instead of Bach's four titles of four books, and St Matthew Passion instead of Passio Domini Nostri J.C. Secundum Evangelistam Matthaeum. Many of Bach's cantatas sound like hymns, because he wrote almost one a week for a year based on hymns. After a longish debate on Classical music, they are uniformly distinguished from the hymns by adding the BWV number, example "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" vs. Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140. - If the anthems are commonly known by their function, I would make that the title, the opening line the redirect. - I think these articles, if we don't like the names now, would be better as "Wedding anthem for Princess Anne" rather than "This is the day which the Lord hath made (Handel)", for instance. You are very welcome to change their names and do the redirects and fix all the links to other articles and lists and things, I am not sure how to do that stuff, I could try to figure it out but it takes me a long time and I don't find it very interesting. - I don't have access to the offlie sources, to tell me if it should be "Wedding anthem" or "Wedding Anthem". Chandos Anthem is clearly a name, but wedding anthem could be generic. - The search function should find it either way. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:42, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
