Hand petition[edit]

"The official hand petition was made on November 6, 2003 at the El Pardo Palace." I don't know what a hand petition is and I can't find any clear information about Spanish engagement customs - my best guess from UK culture is that a 'hand petition' is the groom formally asking the bride's father for the bride's hand in marriage - feedback welcome from anyone with a deeper knowledge of Spain!
