Thank you for higlighting this article. It will from now on be edited with new facts collected from Wei Wei herself, her personal archive and from other sources in China. The facts will be checked as far as possible and notes will be added continuously in order to verify the information. Many sources are currently only to be found in Chinese writing, but they will continuously be translated by certified translators in order to be as accurate as possible. For questions or more information about Wei Wei please visit her two official websites: weiweimusic.com and weiweiint.com. • I spent a while neutralizing and tidying up a bit. Still needs a lot of work, but I think the POV / balance problems are resolved so the tags can be removed. No? -- Butseriouslyfolks 09:06, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Biography[edit]

Please fix the biography section. Right now it looks like a timeline. I've started fixing some of it but I'm just quickly going through and I'll probably miss a lot of areas needing cleaning up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.131.172.248 (talk) 07:01, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia[edit]

Really, the bio looks more like a trivia section with all the dot point information. Also, use CITATIONS please.

Dear Sir/Madam:

First of all I will say sorry for all the inconvenience caused. Seeing my action of deleting this article (due to the fact that it is serious breach of the Term/Conditions of Wikipedia and living people biography policy) was reversed, I feel the need of posting a bit to explain my action. Before that I thank everyone who has put effort into writing this article with a lot of facts, however the misleading part of this article is too painful to ignore.

Wei wei, no doubt was one of the great singer with a few major hit in China, an amazing celebrity who has done a lot of charity work. However she was far from the title 'midonna' 'whitney huston' of china. http://list.mp3.baidu.com/list/top200.htm?id=1?top3 from Baidu.com (the google of china, with accurate and up to date information) suggests that her name is not even in the top 200 chinese singer list. Where as Teresa Teng, featured on Wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teresa_Teng (which the article was written based on facts/sources) who was truly the queen of pop music in china, who tragically passed away more than 10 years ago, are still No.8 on the Baidu top 200 singer list.

Also with the only recently developed music industry in mainland china, selling 0.2 billion records is too much of an exaggeration, same with the 1 billion TV audience of her appearence on TV and a lot of other statements from the article.

I apologize for the fact that I am totally new and poor at using Wikipedia functions, but I cannot possibly tolerate such misleading information to exist on Wikipedia, one of the most reliable source of information on the Internet, which will result in serious misunderstanding of china, chinese culture and history.

Sincerely. Dnahy Dnahy (talk) 15:23, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About the Wei Wei (Singer) article.[edit]

This article isn't only filled with false information, it is also suspicious of being used for commercial purpose. The source of her 0.2 billion album sales are very unreliablbe, if you do manage to find someone who understand chinese to type 韦唯 and 二亿 (0.2billion) and search on google or www.baidu.com, you will not be able to obtain any relavent information, because she simply didn't sell 0.2 billion albums. The article failed to provide the details of which album of hers (in fact if any) that have been sold for certain amount of copies. The very few sources that claim she did sell 0.2 billion albums are commercially related to her new album. And it is a tremendous shame and disgrace seeing her name on the best selling artist in the world along with great singer/artist such as the beatles, Elton John etc.

I am not saying there haven't been any great chinese singers/musicians which might have sold millions of albums but not yet have their names shown on wikipedia. In fact there are many, Liu Huan (who actually sang the theme song of 2008 Olympic Beijing on the opening ceremony http://news.xinhuanet.com/olympics/2008-08/07/content_9014334.htm) Mao A Ming, or newer generation of singers such as Sun Nan and the really popular Pop idol from Hong Kong and Taiwan such as Jay Chou, Lee Hom etc (just a few example.)

There are a few very easy and simple ways of testing her popularity. 1. Paste the names of those singers on google. With Liu Huan (刘欢) Jay Chou (周杰伦) Teresa Teng (邓丽君), well being honest any of those top 200 singers on the Baidu list, you will find more pages about them than that about Wei Wei. 2. If you enable your microsoft chinese Pin Yin input on your computer and type Liu Huan, 刘欢 (the name of the singer) will automatically appear, same for deng li jun (Teresa Teng's Pin Yin name) 邓丽君, because microsoft PinYin input has registed those famous singer's name, which is not the case for Wei Wei 韦唯. 3. If there happen to be Chinese people around you, ask them if they know Wei Wei, and ask them if she has sold 0.2 billion albums. Don't be surprised with what you'll find out.

About all the songs that are listed as her songs, there also lacks sources/base of them being her song, or they can be just the song that she has sang before.

Not only lack source for majority of its statement, this article is blasphemy, a serious breach of term/conditions, disaster that damages credibility of Wikipedia and articles about China and chinese peoplem, and it should be deleted as soon as possible.

Edit: I have quoted some lines those I found funny to share a laughter with you.

1.she practiced different instruments, classical ballet and singing and was trained to perform in front of large audiences from the age of four. 2.Her titles: The Icon of Love, Queen of Sports(?), Icon of Sports Music 3. Wei Wei had a classical training since early age in kindergarten. 4. She has recorded more than one thousands songs, performed several thousands of times. 5. In Early 2008, Wei Wei performed for a TV audience of over a billion people —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dnahy (talkcontribs) 15:09, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, Wei Wei is not a big star in China when comparing to all other singers (like the retired but still outragingly famous Faye Wong, Han Geng, and all winners of Super Girl etc.). The elder generations know about her and appreciate her but the generation that are the main consumers of pop culture haven't heard about her and certainly don't listen to her (although not real researcg, I have actually asked chinese people about her when living in China as I am a swede and have read about her in swedish media and am curious about her as she in those sources are described as the biggest star in China). Her degree of stardom is boosted by herself in the West. As she is not that big of a star the article imposes and also that the article is filled with uncited information I suggest it will be edited and reduced to a more appropriate size. If new facts with known sources then appear they can be added later. Agree with me? [User:Yiwa|Yiwa] 11:29, 29 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yiwa (talkcontribs)
